Job summary

Dahlsens Family Group of Companies in Cairns is seeking a friendly Retail Assistant to join our Scott St team. You’ll be the first point of contact for customers, offering product advice and great service at the hardware counter.

Based in Cairns, this full‑time role supports trade and retail customers with the right products and service daily. Prior hardware or building industry experience helps; forklift licence is essential.

Qualifications

  • Provides warm, professional service to customers and ensures a positive shopping experience.
  • Maintains safety and cleanliness while handling stock to minimise damage and wastage.
  • Keeps up to date with product training and brand information for knowledgeable advice.
  • Ensures orders are prepared accurately and on time to meet customer needs.
  • Monitors stock levels to support supply and demand.
  • Forklift LF licence is essential for operation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide warm, professional service to customers across hardware counter.
  • Handle stock to minimise damage and wastage and keep shelves tidy.
  • Maintain store safety and cleanliness in line with WHS guidelines.
  • Participate in product training with market-leading brands.
  • Ensure orders are prepared on time and in full for customers.
  • Monitor stock levels to meet demand and avoid gaps.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Are you someone who genuinely cares about helping customers and takes pride in providing great service? We’re got multiple full‑time opportunities and are looking for a friendly, reliable Retail Assistant to join our busy Scott St team. This role is front and centre of our business supporting our trade and retail customers with the right products, advice and service every day. Based on the hardware counter, you’ll be the first point of contact for many of our customers. You’ll listen, ask the right questions, and make it easy for customers to get what they need whether they’re builders, tradies or DIYers.

RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE

Prior experience with hardware, or within the building industry is advantageous. The role is well suited to someone with confidence, who enjoys working with people.

  • Providing warm, professional and helpful service to all customers
  • Handling of all stock is done in a manner to minimise damage and wastage
  • Maintain store in a clean and safe manner adhering to workplace health and safety guidelines
  • Undertake regular product training with market leading brands
  • Ensure orders are prepared on time and in full to meet customer requirements
  • Monitor stock levels to ensure supply and demand needs are met
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
  • Has a genuine care for customers and a positive, can‑do attitude
  • Enjoys working with people and building strong relationships
  • Is reliable, punctual
  • Is willing to learn products, systems and processes
  • Physically fit with the ability to safely lift loads and manually handle goods
  • Exceptional attention to detail coupled with high level of accuracy
  • High awareness of site safety and duty of care for your team, staff and site visitors
  • Forklift Licence (LF) Essential
