Job summary

The University of New South Wales in Sydney, NSW, is seeking a Project Manager to lead end-to-end IT and strategic initiatives within the Education Domain. You will translate objectives into practical plans, build cross-functional teams, and establish governance, finance, risk and quality disciplines to keep delivery on scope, budget, and schedule.

Reporting to the Lead Project Manager, you will work across UNSW IT and the broader University, coordinating stakeholders, vendors and delivery teams

Qualifications

• Relevant tertiary qualifications with subsequent relevant experience.
• Proven experience managing end-to-end IT projects or strategic initiatives.
• Understanding of PRINCE2, PMBOK, Agile or other recognised project management methodologies.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end delivery across the project lifecycle (idea to post-implementation).

• Remuneration: $132,445 - $149,228 + 17% superannuation and leave loading
• Location: UNSW Kensington Campus – Hybrid work arrangement (2-3 days onsite)

Why Your Role Matters:
UNSW's Education Domain is delivering strategic technology initiatives that shape how students and staff experience the University. As Project Manager, you will lead end-to-end delivery across the project lifecycle, from idea and discovery through design, implementation and post-implementation review.

You will translate objectives into practical project plans, establish the right cross-functional teams and create the governance, financial, risk and quality disciplines that keep delivery focused on scope, budget, timelines and outcomes.

Working across UNSW IT and the broader University, you will bring together stakeholders, subject matter experts, product and process owners, vendors and delivery teams. Your ability to create clarity, manage dependencies and resolve competing priorities will be central to successful outcomes.

Reporting to the Lead Project Manager, this is an opportunity to lead strategic projects and smaller initiatives while building a strong customer-centric delivery culture across a complex university environment.

Responsibilities Summary:

• Manage key project and initiative components across budget, risk, resources, change and quality from idea, discovery, design and delivery through to post-implementation review.
• Develop and maintain practical project plans, milestones, delivery arrangements and assurance activities that keep teams aligned to scope, budget, schedule and intended outcomes.
• Manage project dependencies, risks, issues, change requests and financials, ensuring appropriate controls, decisions and escalation pathways are in place.
• Align projects and initiatives to UNSW governance pathways, applying a consistent and proven set of rules for planning, decision-making, assurance and reporting.
• Lead effective communication and engagement with internal and external stakeholders, adapting information and recommendations to support timely decisions and sustained alignment.
• Engage and coordinate staff assigned from IT and across the University, fostering a customer-centric delivery culture and supporting teams to achieve agreed scope, budget and timelines.
• Manage vendor communications where applicable, working in partnership with Procurement, Legal, and Vendor and Commercial teams to support effective commercial outcomes.
• Facilitate the interests and opinions of subject matter experts, product owners, process owners and key stakeholders, resolving competing needs so solutions meet stakeholder and business requirements.
• Maintain high-quality project status reporting in Jira, Altus and other internal tools, at the Education Domain level and, where applicable, for the Portfolio Steering Committee.
• Maintain strong quality assurance, demonstrate UNSW Values in Action and the Code of Conduct, and ensure psychosocial and physical health and safety risks are identified and controlled.

Skills and Experience Summary:

• Relevant tertiary qualifications with subsequent relevant experience, or equivalent competence gained through education, training and experience.
• Proven experience managing end-to-end IT projects or strategic initiatives, coordinating scope, schedule, budget, risk, resources, change and quality.
• In-depth understanding of the project lifecycle and experience applying PRINCE2, PMBOK, Agile or other recognized project management methodologies.
• Advanced written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear project information and engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
• Demonstrated success working collaboratively with people at different levels across a complex organization, including business, technical and delivery teams.
• Excellent time management skills, with the judgment and initiative to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines.
• Demonstrated problem-solving abilities, with the confidence to analyze issues, manage dependencies and recommend practical courses of action.
• Knowledge of budgeting and resource allocation procedures, with the ability to monitor project financials and support sound delivery decisions.
• Experience coordinating cross-functional project teams, vendors and subject matter experts in a customer‑centric delivery environment.
• An understanding of and commitment to UNSW's aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies, guidelines and health and safety responsibilities.
