Job summary

Techstream Systems Pty Ltd in Melbourne seeks an experienced BMS engineer to lead programming, commissioning, and delivery of projects from design through handover.

Responsibilities

• Engineer, program, configure, and commission BMS projects.
• Develop and commission Tridium Niagara-based control systems.
• Review project specifications, mechanical and electrical drawings, and control system requirements.
• Prepare functional descriptions, control philosophies, system architecture, and technical documentation.
• Integrate HVAC, mechanical, electrical, and third‑party systems using BACnet, Modbus, MQTT, and other industry‑standard communication protocols.
• Configure, test, commission, and optimise BMS installations to meet project and client requirements.
• Diagnose and resolve control system, network, and integration issues during commissioning and operation.
• Coordinate technical activities with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and mechanical and electrical contractors.
• Support project delivery through commissioning, handover, and defect resolution phases.
• Contribute to technical innovation, continuous improvement, and the development of engineering standards and best practices.

Job description

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, and working closely with Project Managers and the wider engineering team, you will play a key role in the engineering, programming, commissioning, and delivery of BMS projects from design through to handover. You will be involved in the development of system architectures, control strategies, integrations, and technical solutions while supporting the successful delivery of projects across a diverse range of commercial and critical building environments.

Key responsibilities

Engineer, program, configure, and commission BMS projects.

Develop and commission Tridium Niagara-based control systems.

Review project specifications, mechanical and electrical drawings, and control system requirements.

About you

Previous experience in Building Management Systems (BMS), Building Automation, HVAC Controls, or a related field.

Practical experience working with Tridium Niagara.

Strong understanding of HVAC systems, building services, and control strategies.

Knowledge of BACnet, Modbus, TCP/IP networking, and building automation communications protocols.

Ability to interpret mechanical and electrical drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.

Strong commissioning, troubleshooting, and fault‑finding capabilities.

Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills.

The ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment.
