Job summary

AECOM is seeking an experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead the Building Services team in Sydney. The role focuses on delivering complex, multidisciplinary projects across NSW/ACT, mentoring engineers, and growing client relationships within a global infrastructure consultancy.

You will guide design across health, defence, transport, and commercial sectors, ensuring technical excellence, coordination with other disciplines, and robust project delivery while embracing hybrid work

Qualifications

Ideally, 10+ years’ experience in building services consultancy or contracting design with a strong mechanical engineering background.
Chartered status (CPEng) essential, other registrations highly regarded.

Responsibilities

Lead the delivery of complex, multi-disciplinary projects across health, defence, transport, commercial, aviation, data-centre and other major building sectors in NSW/ACT.
Oversee mechanical and multi-discipline building services design and end-to-end project delivery, coordinating with electrical, fire protection and hydraulics.
Build and maintain strong client relationships to support business development and secure a robust pipeline of future work.
Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, applying deep technical expertise to drive quality outcomes and ensure best-practice documentation.
Provide coaching and mentoring to junior engineers to support technical development and high-quality design output.
