Job summary

Neumann Steel Pty Ltd is seeking a hands-on Production Supervisor to lead our shop floor team in Brisbane. You will coordinate daily tasks, mentor staff, and help translate engineering drawings into practical fabrication steps while maintaining quality and safety standards.

Working with a family-owned business, you will partner with the Production Manager to hit daily targets, uphold AS/NZS compliance, and foster a collaborative, proactive culture in a busy steel workshop environment.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification (Cert III or above) in Boilermaker, Welder, or Fitter & Turner.
• Proven leadership or supervisory experience in heavy manufacturing or steel workshop.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
• Strong communication and proactive problem-solving skills.
• Experience with forklifts and overhead cranes is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate daily production tasks on the shop floor.
• Read and interpret structural and mechanical drawings in detail.
• Ensure quality control procedures meet AS/NZS standards.
• Promote safety culture through toolbox talks and PPE usage.
• Collaborate with Production Manager to meet output and dispatch targets.

Description

This position involves a combination of shop floor leadership, task coordination, interpreting engineering drawings, and providing hands-on support with complex steel fabrication tasks.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise, mentor, and coordinate daily tasks for the production team on the shop floor.
• Read and interpret detailed structural and mechanical engineering drawings.
• Ensure quality control procedures are followed to meet AS/NZS standards.
• Promote and uphold a strong safety culture through toolbox talks, hazard identification, and proper use of PPE, cranes, and forklifts.
• Collaborate with the Production Manager to achieve daily output and dispatch targets.

Skills & Experience

• Trade qualification as a Boilermaker, Welder, or Fitter & Turner (Cert III or above).
• Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience within a heavy manufacturing or steel workshop environment.
• Ability to accurately read and interpret technical and engineering drawings.
• Excellent communication skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
• Current Forklift licence (LF) and experience operating overhead cranes; rigging or dogman tickets are advantageous.
