Job summary

Neumann Steel on the Gold Coast is seeking an Operator Welder to join our reputable, family-owned team. You will operate MIG, TIG and Arc/Stick welding equipment, interpret drawings, and ensure weld quality for commercial and residential projects in QLD and NSW.

Responsibilities include setting up machines, inspecting welds, handling materials, performing routine maintenance, and maintaining strict safety standards with PPE. 1–3+ years of welding or machine operation experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Completion of high school education or vocational/technical welding training.
• 1–3+ years of manufacturing or machine operation experience.
• Competency with MIG, TIG, Arc/Stick welding and reading technical drawings.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and lift heavy components in a hot/industrial environment.

Responsibilities

• Operate welding equipment and set up per production schedules.
• Read blueprints and layout to align and secure components.
• Inspect welds and finished assemblies for quality and accuracy.
• Handle material loading/offloading and move finished products safely.
• Maintain welding equipment with routine checks and cleaning.
• Follow site safety policies and wear PPE.

The Operator Welder is responsible for operating welding equipment, inspecting finished metal components, and performing routine maintenance to ensure the delivery of high-quality products while maintaining strict compliance with workplace safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Machine Operation: Set up, adjust, and operate welding equipment (such as MIG, TIG, stick, or spot-welding machines) in accordance with production schedules.
• Blueprint & Layout Interpretation: Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and work orders to accurately align and secure metal components.
• Quality Assurance: Conduct inspections of welds and finished assemblies to verify bead dimensions, penetration, surface quality, and dimensional accuracy using appropriate measuring tools.
• Material Handling: Load and unload raw metal parts, manage scrap efficiently, and transfer finished products using manual handling techniques or lifting equipment.
• Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine troubleshooting, cleaning, and pre-start checks on welding apparatus, torches, and grinding tools.
• Safety Compliance: Adhere to all site safety policies, utilise required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and promptly report any equipment hazards or incidents.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Education: Completion of high school education or vocational/technical training in welding or fabrication.
• Experience: Prior experience in manufacturing or machine operation (generally 1–3+ years preferred).
• Technical Skills: Competency with welding methods (MIG, TIG, Arc/Stick), metal cutting and grinding tools, and reading technical drawings.
• Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for extended periods, lift heavy metal components, and work comfortably in hot or industrial environments
