Job summary

St Vincent's Hospital Sydney in Darlinghurst is seeking a friendly Switchboard Receptionist to be the voice and face of the hospital, handling calls from patients, staff and the public, seven days a week.

You will manage urgent communications, liaise with the Mental Health Crisis Team and Security, and keep roster and directories up to date, ensuring smooth Switchboard operations across day, evening and overnight shifts.

Qualifications

• Experience in switchboard/contact centre or receptionist role.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to act decisively in emergencies and high-stress situations.
• Professional, adaptable and well-presented with customer service focus.

Responsibilities

• Be the friendly, professional voice and face of St Vincent’s Hospital.
• Take charge in urgent situations and liaise with Mental Health Crisis Team and Security.
• Provide compassionate support to callers experiencing distress.
• Keep hospital Switchboard operations running by updating rosters and directories.
• Work a dynamic 7-day rotating roster across day, evening and overnight shifts.
