Job summary

Libraries ACT is seeking a Library Support Officer to deliver friendly customer service and help visitors access resources and programs across branches in Canberra. You will assist with shelving, returns, and creating welcoming spaces while supporting community activities for people of all ages.

You will work in a fast-paced public-facing environment, collaborate across branches, adapt to changing priorities, and help maintain safety and a positive library atmosphere for patrons and staff.

Qualifications

• Eligibility/ Other Requirements: Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required.
• Experience in the Galleries, Libraries and Museum (GLAM) industry will be well regarded.

Responsibilities

• Deliver exceptional customer service and create positive experiences for all library visitors.
• Assist customers to access and use library resources, services and technology with confidence.
• Support the day-to-day operation of library branches, including shelving collections, processing returns and maintaining welcoming library spaces.
• Contribute to the delivery of library programs, events and community activities for people of all ages including early childhood.
• Respond professionally to customer enquiries, feedback and complaints.
• Work collaboratively across branches and adapt to changing priorities and operational needs.
• Support a safe environment for customers and staff, including assisting during emergency and evacuation situations when required.
