Banana Shire Council is seeking a motivated Library Assistant – Programs and Engagement to support a high-quality library service across Banana Shire communities. You will plan and deliver outreach, assist with events, and help manage collections using the library database.

Banana Shire Council is seeking amotivated and detail‑driven Library Assistant – Programs and Engagement, to assist in providing a high-quality Library and Information Service that is responsive to community needs and provides for the information, recreational and cultural needs of the Banana Shire communities.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and deliver outreach sessions, including First Five Forever sessions, school visits, school holiday activities, book clubs, library tours, and other activities tailored to local needs
Assist with the implementation of promotional and marketing activities and events
Process library materials, including cataloguing, loans, branch exchange, and contribute to the development and maintenance of the library database
Provide quality customer service to all library users through processing library materials, managing requests, branch exchanges
Provide information and reference assistance to library users with the use of the online catalogue, public access computers and library collections
Manage collection and events in line with budget
Shelve library items and maintain the physical appearance of the library
Ensure the library is properly secured at closing time
Assist with the development and maintenance of Local History Collections
Assist in the supervision of trainees, volunteers, and work experience students as required
Contribute to the promotion of the image of the Council and the maximisation of good public relations
Liaise with clients, other Council staff, the public, consultants, utility, and government authorities in the performance of duties including providing and obtaining information
Undertake routine administrative tasks as required by the position eg. Timesheets, financial transactions, maintain collection
Assist senior staff to continuously improve work processes and develop new practices as required
Participate in training, exercises and response to disaster management and recovery as required
Undertake other relevant duties as directed, consistent with skills, competence, and training
Assist in the delivery of Council supported events (e.g. Book Week, Australia Day)

Ability to plan and implement community engagement activities for various target groups
Demonstrated ability to work independently and exercise initiative
Excellent customer service, interpersonal and communication skills
Demonstrated time management and organisational skills including the ability to prioritise workloads
Good understanding of and commitment to EEO and WHS principles and practices
