Shangri-La the Marina, Cairns seeks a passionate and skilled Chef to join our Culinary team in Cairns, Australia. You will prepare and present high-quality food across hotel Food & Beverage operations and contribute to the smooth running of the kitchen in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Relevant culinary qualifications and/or previous professional kitchen experience.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and present food to Shangri-La standards.
  • Ensure consistent quality, taste, presentation and portions.
  • Work across daily service, functions and hotel culinary operations.
  • Follow recipes, menus and established preparation and cooking procedures.
  • Maintain high standards of food hygiene, cleanliness and kitchen organisation.
  • Ensure food is stored, prepared and handled in accordance with food safety requirements.
  • Support effective stock rotation and minimising food wastage.
  • Monitor the quality and freshness of ingredients.
  • Collaborate with other Culinary team members to ensure smooth service.
  • Assist with preparation for functions, events and other hotel requirements.
  • Maintain kitchen equipment and work areas to a high standard.
  • Support the implementation of new menu items and culinary initiatives.
  • Follow all hotel policies, procedures and workplace health and safety requirements.
  • Support other sections of the kitchen as required to meet operational needs.

About the Hotel

Located beside the Marlin Marina and Trinity Inlet in the heart of Cairns, Shangri-La the Marina, Cairns is a luxury five-star hotel featuring 255 guest rooms, 19 function venues and extensive food and beverage facilities.

With a diverse range of dining, events and hospitality experiences, our Culinary team plays an important role in delivering the high standards our guests expect from Shangri-La.

About the Role

As a Chef, you will be responsible for preparing and presenting high-quality food across our hotel Food & Beverage operations.

Working as part of our Culinary team, you will contribute to the smooth running of the kitchen, maintain consistently high food standards and work collaboratively with colleagues to deliver memorable dining experiences for our guests.

This is a hands‑on role suited to a chef who enjoys working in a fast‑paced environment and takes pride in quality, presentation and consistency.

Your Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing and presenting food to the required Shangri-La standards.

  • Ensuring consistency in quality, taste, presentation and portion control.

About You

We are looking for a passionate, reliable and team-focused Chef who takes pride in delivering quality food and maintaining high standards.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Relevant culinary qualifications and/or previous professional kitchen experience.

  • Experience working in a commercial kitchen environment.

  • A genuine passion for food and hospitality.

  • Strong knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques and food safety practices.

  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to quality.

  • The ability to work efficiently under pressure during busy service periods.

  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.

  • Good organisation and time‑management skills.

  • A professional approach to kitchen hygiene, cleanliness and safety.

  • Flexibility to work across a variety of shifts, including mornings, evenings, weekends and public holidays.

  • Previous experience in a hotel or high-volume hospitality environment will be highly regarded.
