Job summary

Shangri-La the Marina, Cairns seeks a passionate and skilled Chef to join our Culinary team in Cairns, Australia. You will prepare and present high-quality food across hotel Food & Beverage operations and contribute to the smooth running of the kitchen in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Relevant culinary qualifications and/or previous professional kitchen experience.
• Experience working in a commercial kitchen environment.
• Passion for food and hospitality with attention to quality.
• Ability to work under pressure during busy service periods.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.
• Flexibility to work across a variety of shifts.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and present food to Shangri-La standards.
• Ensure consistent quality, taste, presentation and portions.
• Work across daily service, functions and hotel culinary operations.
• Follow recipes, menus and established preparation and cooking procedures.
• Maintain high standards of food hygiene, cleanliness and kitchen organisation.
• Ensure food is stored, prepared and handled in accordance with food safety requirements.
• Support effective stock rotation and minimising food wastage.
• Monitor the quality and freshness of ingredients.
• Collaborate with other Culinary team members to ensure smooth service.
• Assist with preparation for functions, events and other hotel requirements.
• Maintain kitchen equipment and work areas to a high standard.
• Support the implementation of new menu items and culinary initiatives.
• Follow all hotel policies, procedures and workplace health and safety requirements.
• Support other sections of the kitchen as required to meet operational needs.
