Job summary

Blackwoods is seeking an Assistant Store Manager to support the Store Manager in leading a high‑performing retail team in Canberra. You will drive sales, coach staff, maintain stock, and ensure a safe, engaging workplace. You may rotate into Store Manager duties and weekends are required on a rotating roster.

You will lead from the front, develop team capabilities, and foster exceptional customer experiences while upholding WHS and company standards in a busy retail environment.

Qualifications

• Proven retail leadership experience in an Assistant Store Manager, Department Manager or Team Leader role.
• Strong people leadership skills with experience coaching, developing and managing team performance.
• Demonstrated success achieving sales targets, KPIs and commercial outcomes.
• A customer-first mindset with a proven track record of delivering exceptional service and building customer relationships.
• Strong commercial acumen and the ability to balance operational execution with business performance.
• Trade background, retail tooling, maintenance or DYI home expert – any experience with wide range of tools is highly regarded but not essential.

About The Role

We're looking for a hands‑on and customer‑focused Assistant Store Manager to support the Store Manager in leading a high‑performing retail team. This role plays a critical part in driving sales growth, delivering exceptional customer experiences, maintaining operational excellence and fostering a safe, engaged and productive workplace culture. You'll lead from the front, coach and develop team members, and step into Store Manager responsibilities when required.

This role operates on a rotating roster, so flexibility to work weekends when scheduled is required.
