Job summary

Visy at the Smithfield Beverage Can plant is offering a 4-year Mechanical Fitter Apprenticeship. You will learn from experienced tradespeople, gaining hands-on maintenance, fault finding, and preventative techniques on high-speed equipment in a fast-paced FMCG environment.

You will graduate as a qualified Mechanical Fitter, with opportunities to advance within the business. The role runs day shifts from 6:00am to 2:30pm and requires completion of Year 10 or higher, plus a strong safety mindset

Qualifications

• Completed Year 10 or above with genuine interest in mechanical maintenance.
• Hands-on aptitude for learning mechanical trades in a fast-paced FMCG setting.
• Commitment to workplace safety and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Learn mechanical maintenance, fault finding and equipment repairs on high-speed manufacturing lines.
• Develop preventative and breakdown maintenance skills under supervision.
• Assist with safe operation and routine servicing of PLC-controlled equipment.
• Graduate from the program as a qualified Mechanical Fitter with ongoing career potential.

About the opportunity:

Working at our Smithfield Beverage Can manufacturing plant, you'll learn from experienced tradespeople while developing practical skills in mechanical maintenance, fault finding, equipment repairs and preventative maintenance.

As a Mechanical Fitter Apprentice, you'll gain valuable exposure to a fast-paced FMCG manufacturing environment and work with the equipment and technology that keeps a large-scale production facility running safely and efficiently. This is a day-shift opportunity, working from 6:00am to 2:30pm.

What you will learn:

• Complete a 4-year Mechanical Fitter Apprenticeship in an FMCG (Fast-Moving Consumer Goods) manufacturing environment.
• Gain hands-on experience in mechanical maintenance, fault finding, troubleshooting, and equipment repairs.
• Learn preventative and breakdown maintenance techniques across high-speed automated production equipment.
• Work alongside experienced tradespeople while completing your nationally recognised trade qualifications.
• Gain exposure to a modern manufacturing facility producing more than 3 million beverage cans every day.
• Graduate as a qualified Mechanical Fitter with valuable hands-on experience and opportunities to continue building your career within the business.
