Job summary

Visy is offering a Mechanical Fitter Apprenticeship at our Smithfield Beverage Can plant. You’ll learn from experienced tradespeople while developing practical skills in mechanical maintenance, fault finding, equipment repairs and preventative maintenance.

This 4-year program takes place in a fast-paced FMCG environment with a day shift (6:00am–2:30pm), preparing you to graduate as a qualified Mechanical Fitter and grow within the business.

• Completed Year 10 or higher.
• Interest in mechanical maintenance and manufacturing.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on learning.

Responsibilities

• Learn mechanical maintenance, fault finding, and equipment repairs.
• Perform preventative and breakdown maintenance on high-speed equipment.
• Work with experienced tradespeople in a fast FMCG environment.
• Support safe and efficient operation of the plant.
• Progress through a 4-year apprenticeship to qualification.

About the opportunity:

Working at our Smithfield Beverage Can manufacturing plant, you’ll learn from experienced tradespeople while developing practical skills in mechanical maintenance, fault finding, equipment repairs and preventative maintenance.

As a Mechanical Fitter Apprentice, you’ll gain valuable exposure to a fast-paced FMCG manufacturing environment and work with the equipment and technology that keeps a large-scale production facility running safely and efficiently. This is a day-shift opportunity, working from 6:00am to 2:30pm.

What you will learn:

• Complete a 4-year Mechanical Fitter Apprenticeship in an FMCG (Fast-Moving Consumer Goods) manufacturing environment.
• Gain hands-on experience in mechanical maintenance, fault finding, troubleshooting, and equipment repairs.
• Learn preventative and breakdown maintenance techniques across high-speed automated production equipment.
• Work alongside experienced tradespeople while completing your nationally recognised trade qualifications.
• Gain exposure to a modern manufacturing facility producing more than 3 million beverage cans every day.
• Graduate as a qualified Mechanical Fitter with valuable hands-on experience and opportunities to continue building your career within the business.
