Job summary

UnitingCare, through its FaDS team, seeks a Domestic Violence After Hours Practitioner to support women and children in refuges, respond to crises, complete intakes, assess risk and help keep the refuge running smoothly. This is a 24-hour on-call service with a 4-hour onsite shift (4-8pm weeknights, 9am-1pm weekends) plus on-call duties, requiring calm decision-making and trauma-informed practice.

Evening, weekend and public holiday shifts are required.

Qualifications

• Experience in domestic violence crisis response and refuge settings.
• Proficiency in trauma-informed risk assessment and safety planning.
• Ability to manage after-hours calls and coordinate with authorities.

Responsibilities

• Assess safety during domestic violence crises.
• Complete refuge intakes and risk assessments.
• Develop safety plans with residents.
• Offer emotional and practical support to residents.
• Manage after-hours calls and liaise with police and Child Safety.
• Document case notes and respond to emergencies.
• Work independently while coordinating with on-call leadership.
