Domestic Violence NSW Service Management (trading as Human & Co) in Western Sydney is seeking a part-time DFV Practitioner to provide short-term therapeutic support and crisis case management to women and their children in crisis. Bring specialist case management to women and children in crisis

Do you want to bring your clinical and case management practice to women and children at the moment they reach out, and walk with them from crisis to safety?

As a DFV Practitioner (case worker) in our Crisis Support Service, you will provide short term therapeutic support and complex crisis case management to women, with or without children, who are experiencing or have experienced domestic and family violence in Western Sydney. You will work independently and as part of a specialist team, holding risk, planning for safety, and connecting women with accommodation and longer-term support.

This is a fixed-term opportunity from 1 November 2026 to 30 June 2027 (8 months). The role is part-time at 3 days (22.8 hours) per week based in Western Sydney, working across our Western Sydney office, our city office occasionally, and out in the community. Flexibility is available depending on candidate and experience levels.

What you will do

Direct practice with women and their children:

• Provide short term therapeutic support and crisis case management to women, with or without children, who are in temporary accommodation, couch surfing or sleeping rough in Western Sydney.
• Build rapport and trust quickly, so that immediate safety can be assessed and held as the first priority.
• Complete risk assessment and safety planning, and review both as a woman’s circumstances change.
• Support women with complex needs, including mental health diagnoses and active alcohol and other drug use, using assessment and response based practice.
• Work with women to access short and medium term accommodation options, and act on referrals to longer term support.
• Meet mandatory reporting obligations when required.

Crisis response and outreach:

• Hold your own crisis caseload and support the team with referrals, emergency relief and outreach support.
• Attend Outreach Hubs in the community so that women and children who cannot come to us are still supported.
• Arrange practical support such as emergency relief, vouchers and transport where appropriate.
• Take part in the rotating on-call roster.

Work alongside the team and other services:

• Co-work client cases with DFV Workers, fellow Practitioners and the Senior Practitioner.
• Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with the stakeholders involved in a client’s support, including Homes NSW, health services, DCJ, Police and community services.

Keep the record accurate:

• Document case notes in CIMS and complete reports when required.
• Record therapeutic case plans and safety plans, and any changes made to them.
• complete incident reports when needed.

Be part of the team:

• Take part in team meetings, professional supervision and clinical supervision.
• Engage in ongoing learning and development.
• ork with the Service Manager and the team to support organisational goals and a positive team culture.

Who we are looking for

• Proven experience delivering direct clinical, therapeutic and/or case management services within the DFV sector.
• Strong understanding of gendered domestic and family violence, including its drivers and its impact on women and children.
• Demonstrated experience supporting the recovery of women and families affected by DFV, including risk assessment and safety planning.
• Skills in assessment and response based practice within DFV contexts.
• Experience supporting clients with complex needs, including mental health diagnoses and/or active alcohol and other drug use.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a specialist team.
• Availability to work within our service hours of Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm, across the agreed 22.8 hours per week pattern, and to take part in a rotating on-call roster.

As Human & Co provides services exclusively to women and children, being female is a genuine occupational requirement for this position pursuant to Section 31 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).

Mandatory requirements

• NSW Working with Children Check (WWCC): You must hold or be able to obtain a valid NSW Working with Children Check clearance prior to commencement.
• National Police Check: A satisfactory National Police Check is required. Human & Co will arrange this prior to commencement.
• Qualification Check: Satisfactory qualification check of your relevant qualification. Human & Co will arrange this prior to commencement.
• NSW Driver Licence: You must hold a current unrestricted NSW driver licence. Transporting clients and travelling for outreach are a core part of this role.
