Job summary

Proofpoint is seeking a Senior DevOps and Data Engineer to join our Data Platform team in a hybrid role. You’ll own reliability, automation, and delivery of data pipelines and analytics capabilities, building and maintaining cloud infrastructure (AWS-first), CI/CD tooling, and data engineering automation.

You’ll design and operate data pipelines using AWS Glue, Athena, and S3 while improving security, ownership, and developer experience.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional experience in DevOps, platform engineering, or site reliability engineering, with at least 2 years of hands-on data engineering work.
• Deep expertise with AWS core services: S3, IAM, VPC, CloudWatch, Lambda, ECS/EKS, Secrets Manager, and CloudFormation/CDK.
• Hands-on experience with AWS data services: Glue ETL, Athena, and S3 lifecycle, encryption, and events.
• Proficiency with Infrastructure-as-Code tools: Terraform and/or AWS CDK.
• Strong CI/CD experience: GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI, or equivalent.
• Experience with container technologies (Docker) and container orchestration (ECS/EKS/Kubernetes).
• Proven ability to design observability systems (metrics, logging, tracing) for data and platform services.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines for AWS Glue ETL jobs and related data infrastructure.
• Build and manage AWS-based infrastructure using IaC (Terraform / CDK).
• Own the observability stack for data pipelines with metrics, logs, and alerts.
• Develop self-service DataOps tooling and reusable templates for production pipelines.
• Manage container and compute infrastructure to support data ingestion microservices.
• Operate workflow orchestration environments (MWAA, Airflow, Step Functions).
• Lead incident response and post-mortems for data platform outages.
• Mentor junior engineers in DevOps and data engineering practices.
