Job summary

Proofpoint is seeking a Senior DevOps and Data Engineer to join our Data Platform team in a hybrid role. You will own reliability, automation, and delivery of data pipelines and analytics capabilities, building cloud infrastructure on AWS and CI/CD pipelines to ship high-quality data products faster and safely.

You will design and operate data pipelines using Glue, Athena, and S3, while contributing to observability, security, and developer experience.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional experience in DevOps/platform engineering or SRE with at least 2 years in data engineering.
• Deep expertise with AWS core services: S3, IAM, VPC, CloudWatch, Lambda, ECS/EKS, Secrets Manager, and CloudFormation/CDK.
• Hands-on experience with AWS data services: Glue, Athena, S3 lifecycle, encryption, and event notifications.
• Proficiency with Infrastructure-as-Code tools - Terraform and/or AWS CDK.
• Strong CI/CD experience with GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI, or equivalent.
• Experience with containers (Docker) and orchestration (ECS, EKS, Kubernetes).
• Proven ability to design observability systems (metrics, logging, tracing, alerting).
• Excellent communication to translate operational concerns into clear trade-offs.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines for automated testing, deployment, and promotion of AWS Glue and related data infra.
• Build and manage AWS-based cloud infrastructure using IaC (Terraform / CDK).
• Own the observability stack: metrics, logs, alerts to ensure SLA compliance and fast incident response.
• Develop DataOps tooling, templates, and shared libraries for production-grade pipelines.
• Manage container and compute infra (Docker, ECS/EKS, Lambda) for data ingestion services.
• Design and operate workflow orchestration environments (MWAA/Airflow, Step Functions).
• Build and maintain AWS Glue ETL jobs (PySpark) for large-scale data ingestion.
• Drive security best practices: secrets management, least-privilege IAM, network segmentation.
• Collaborate with data engineers/scientists/security to scale infra.
• Lead incident responses and perform post-mortems for data platform outages.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to architecture decisions.
