Job summary

Proofpoint is seeking a Staff Data Engineer to design and operate large-scale data infrastructure on AWS. You will collaborate with data scientists and product teams to build reliable data assets, ensuring governance and performance across analytics and cybersecurity products.

You will lead architectural decisions, drive best practices, and mentor engineers, contributing to the data platform roadmap and governance standards.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software or data engineering experience.
• 4+ years focused on cloud data platforms.
• Strong Python / PySpark / SQL skills.
• Experience with AWS data services (S3, Glue, Athena).
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• Excellent communication and mentoring abilities.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement scalable data pipelines on AWS for petabyte-scale data.
• Define and maintain cloud lake architecture and data catalogs.
• Establish data quality, validation, and monitoring frameworks.
• Lead design reviews and mentor junior engineers on best practices.
