Job summary

Proofpoint is seeking a Senior DevOps and Data Engineer to join the Data Platform team. This hybrid role focuses on reliability, automation, and data infrastructure, building cloud infrastructure on AWS and CI/CD pipelines for Glue and Athena.

You will own observability, DataOps tooling, and orchestration, collaborating with data engineers, scientists, and security to ship scalable data products safely.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional experience in DevOps, platform engineering, or SRE, with at least 2 years of hands-on data engineering work.
• Deep expertise with AWS core services: S3, IAM, VPC, CloudWatch, Lambda, ECS/EKS, Secrets Manager, and CloudFormation/CDK.
• Hands-on experience with AWS data services: Glue ETL jobs, Athena workgroup management, Data Catalog, S3 lifecycle/encryption.
• Proficiency with Infrastructure-as-Code tools—Terraform and/or AWS CDK.
• Strong CI/CD experience in GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI, or equivalent.
• Experience with Docker and container orchestration (ECS, EKS, Kubernetes).
• Proven ability to design observability systems (metrics, logging, tracing, alerts).
• Strong communication skills to translate operational concerns into engineering trade-offs.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines for automated testing, deployment, and promotion of AWS Glue ETL jobs, Athena views, and related data infrastructure.
• Build and manage cloud infrastructure on AWS using IaC (Terraform and/or CDK) covering S3, IAM, Glue resources, Athena workgroups, Lake Formation, VPCs.
• Own the observability stack for data pipelines with metrics, logs, and alerts to ensure SLA compliance and fast incident response.
• Develop and maintain DataOps tooling, templates, and libraries for production-grade pipelines.
• Manage container and compute infra (Docker, ECS/EKS, or Lambda) supporting data ingestion services.
• Design and operate workflow orchestration environments (MWAA/Airflow, Step Functions) including upgrades and scaling.
• Build and maintain Glue ETL jobs (PySpark) for large-scale data ingestion and transformation.
• Drive security practices: Secrets Manager, least-privilege IAM, network segmentation.
• Collaborate with data engineers/scientists/security to translate requirements into scalable infra.
• Lead incident response for data platform outages and post-incident improvements.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to design reviews and architecture decisions.
