Job summary

Proofpoint is seeking a Senior DevOps and Data Engineer to join the Data Platform team in a remote role. You will own reliability, automation, and delivery of data pipelines and analytics capabilities, building cloud infrastructure (AWS-first), CI/CD tooling, and DevOps processes.

You’ll work across AWS Glue, Athena, and S3, shaping data platforms and operations with a strong focus on reliability, developer experience, and security.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in DevOps, platform engineering or site reliability engineering with at least 2 years in data engineering.
• Deep expertise with AWS core services (S3, IAM, VPC, CloudWatch, Lambda, ECS/EKS).
• Hands-on IaC experience with Terraform and/or AWS CDK.
• Strong CI/CD experience with GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI, or similar.
• Experience with Docker and container orchestration (ECS, EKS, Kubernetes).
• Proven ability to design observability systems (metrics, logs, tracing) for data/platform services.
• Excellent communication to translate operational concerns into clear engineering choices.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines for AWS Glue ETL jobs, Athena views, and data infrastructure.
• Build and manage AWS-based cloud infrastructure using IaC (Terraform/CDK) including S3, IAM, Glue, Athena, VPCs, and more.
• Own the observability stack with metrics, logs, and alerts for SLA compliance and incident response.
• Develop DataOps tooling and reusable templates for production-grade pipelines.
• Manage container and compute infrastructure (Docker, ECS/EKS, Lambda) for data ingestion services.
• Operate workflow orchestration (MWAA/Airflow, Step Functions) with upgrades and scaling.
• Build and maintain AWS Glue ETL jobs (PySpark) across the data lake.
• Enforce security best practices (Secrets Manager, least privilege IAM, network segmentation).
• Collaborate with data teams to deliver scalable infrastructure solutions.
• Lead incident response and post-mortems, mentor junior engineers.
