Ionic Partners is seeking a Principal AI-Native Engineer to build agentic systems that run real business functions in production. You’ll ramp into live systems, extend and harden them, and own the outcome with direct impact across portfolio companies.

The role emphasizes designing scalable architectures, integrating with enterprise platforms, and rigorous evaluation. This is a remote, globally distributed opportunity with no internal management layers.

Formación

• 8+ years of hands-on software engineering experience building and operating production systems.
• 3+ years building AI-Native or agentic systems that reached production and were used for real work.
• Demonstrated end-to-end ownership of shipped systems.
• Experience integrating AI systems with business platforms (CRMs, ERPs, data warehouses).
• Independent contributor role with no management requirement.

Responsabilidades

• Turn functional specs into agentic system designs and surface failure modes.
• Design agent architectures: boundaries, orchestration, tool surfaces, memory, and model vs. deterministic logic.
• Build, ship, and operate production agentic systems end-to-end across business functions.
• Extend and harden the in-house orchestration framework and integrations.
• Improve automated development and QA agents in the engineering pipeline.
• Create and maintain machine-readable context artifacts for products and customers.
• Design retrieval and context-assembly strategies and manage context budgets.
• Integrate systems with live platforms including auth, permissioning, and cost controls.
• Define success criteria and build eval harnesses and baselines.
• Instrument systems with tracing and observability for production diagnostics.
• Build guardrails, fallbacks, and rollback paths proportional to impact.
• Monitor token and tool costs and design for unit economics at scale.
• Track eval trends, cost curves, and failure patterns; act on results.
• Resolve regressions and maintain systems as business processes change.
• Ramp quickly into large production codebases and extend them safely.
