Role Context

The Structural Inspector acts as a field quality control point for a broad range of public works structures. The position requires close attention to drawings, specifications, approved materials, quantities, safety conditions, and construction records so that completed works can be accepted with confidence. The inspector also supports commercial verification by confirming installed quantities and helps resolve site issues before they develop into larger technical or schedule problems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect structural works to confirm compliance with contract specifications, approved drawings, and project requirements.
  • Monitor demolition of structural elements and associated preparation works.
  • Inspect construction activities involving reservoirs, lifting stations, landscape structures, lagoons, swimming pools, substations, retaining walls, tunnels, bridges, and similar assets.
  • Verify workmanship, dimensions, and completed structural elements against approved technical documentation.
  • Confirm that only approved materials are used in permanent works.
  • Review Certificates of Compliance, Safety Data Sheets, inspection tags, and other material-related records.
  • Maintain accurate daily inspection diaries and project files.
  • Prepare daily reports and other contract-required documentation.
  • Keep quantity calculations and supporting measurement records up to date.
  • Maintain as-built information based on verified site conditions.
  • Carry out labor compliance interviews where required by project procedures.
  • Identify conflicts, technical concerns, construction issues, and potential nonconformances.
  • Advise supervisors on practical options for resolving site problems.
  • Document nonconforming work and support evaluation of corrective measures.
  • Follow up corrective actions until affected works are brought into compliance.
  • Verify installed quantities supporting contractor payment applications.
  • Assist in checking quantities associated with variations, change orders, and extra work.
  • Review progress payment estimates and extra work bills where assigned.
  • Coordinate surveying activities undertaken by specialist subconsultants.
  • Liaise with material testing teams and verify required testing is completed.
  • Support preparation and implementation of quality control procedures.
  • Contribute inspection findings to project quality reports.
  • Assist in developing safe working practices and related site reports.
  • Identify hazardous work conditions and take appropriate action in accordance with project procedures.
  • Maintain awareness of public safety around active construction areas.
  • Respond to project site call-backs when emergency inspection support is required.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior inspectors where appropriate.
  • Plan daily inspection priorities in line with construction schedules and upcoming work fronts.
  • Coordinate effectively with engineers, contractors, surveyors, testing personnel, and supervision staff.
  • Maintain clear written records that support project acceptance, commercial review, and final handover.
Ideal Profile
  • Diploma or bachelor 's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working as a Structural Inspector within the region.
  • Practical background in public works, civil infrastructure, or structural construction inspection.
  • Good understanding of construction contracts and related site processes.
  • Able to read and interpret plans, specifications, and approved construction details.
  • Comfortable working with engineering calculations, measurements, graphs, and charts.
  • Able to review quantities linked to progress payments and extra work.
  • Familiar with construction scheduling and progress monitoring.
