Role Context

The Structural Inspector will act as a field-level quality checkpoint across multiple types of civil and structural construction. The position requires continuous verification of workmanship, materials, quantities, records, and compliance with contractual requirements. By documenting deficiencies, coordinating testing and surveying activities, and recognizing construction conflicts before they escape, the inspector will help protect structural quality, commercial accuracy, site safety, and successful project completion.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect structural construction activities and verify compliance with contract drawings, specifications, and approved project requirements.
  • Supervise demolition activities involving existing structural elements where included within the assigned works.
  • Inspect construction associated with reservoirs, lifting stations, retaining walls, substations, tunnels, bridges, and similar infrastructure structures.
  • Monitor structural works for landscaping facilities, lagoons, swimming pools, and other project-specific assets.
  • Confirm that only approved construction materials are incorporated into permanent works.
  • Collect and review Certificates of Compliance, Safety Data Sheets, inspection tags, and supporting material documentation.
  • Identify workmanship or material issues that may result in non-conforming construction.
  • Document non-conformances and participate in evaluating appropriate corrective measures.
  • Recognize potential construction conflicts and communicate practical resolution options to the supervising engineer.
  • Maintain comprehensive project files and field inspection records.
  • Prepare daily site diaries detailing activities, manpower, observations, and completed work.
  • Produce inspection reports and other documentation required under the contract.
  • Perform engineering quantity calculations within the assigned inspection scope.
  • Record installed quantities and support verification of contractor payment applications.
  • Review quantities associated with variations, change orders, and additional work where required.
  • Maintain and update relevant as-built information throughout construction.
  • Coordinate subconsultant activities associated with surveying and material testing.
  • Check testing and survey information against project requirements.
  • Support preparation and implementation of construction quality control procedures.
  • Contribute inspection information to QA-QC reports and project quality records.
  • Assist with development and implementation of job-specific safety practices.
  • Identify hazardous conditions and take appropriate action within assigned authority.
  • Maintain awareness of worker and public safety while conducting inspections.
  • Respond to emergency site call-backs when required.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior inspectors when assigned.
  • Monitor construction progress and understand its relationship with approved schedules.
  • Support accurate assessment of progress payment estimates and extra-work documentation.
  • Escalate significant quality, safety, contractual, or construction issues to the responsible supervisor.
Ideal Profile
  • The position requires a diploma or bachelor 's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline, together with practical regional experience inspecting structural construction.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working as a Structural Inspector within the region.
  • Knowledge of public works contracts and construction supervision processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, plans, and specifications.
  • Understanding of structural and civil construction requirements.
  • Effective mathematical skills for engineering calculations, quantities, graphs, and charts.
  • Experience maintaining detailed inspection diaries and field reports.
  • Ability to review progress payment estimates and additional work bills.
  • Understanding of construction schedules and progress monitoring.
  • Ability to identify construction problems and exercise sound field judgment.
  • Awareness of hazardous work conditions and appropriate safety responses.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and project management software.
  • Ability to use digital resources and computer applications for inspection and reporting activities.
  • Familiarity with client requirements and applicable industry standards.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Ability to manage inspection priorities and prepare proactively for scheduled activities.
  • UAE authority certifications or relevant technical approvals are advantageous.
  • HSE training is preferred.
  • OSHA 10-hour construction safety training is desirable.
