Role Context The Structural Inspector serves as a key field representative responsible for confirming that structural construction meets contractual, technical, quality, and safety requirements. The assignment can involve reservoirs, lifting stations, landscape structures, lagoons, swimming pools, substations, retaining walls, tunnels, bridges, and demolition activities. Through disciplined inspection, accurate reporting, quantity verification, and early identification of nonconforming work, the inspector helps protect construction quality while supporting schedule and commercial control.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out regular field inspections to determine whether structural works comply with contract specifications, approved drawings, and project requirements.
  • Inspect demolition and construction activities involving structural elements and associated civil works.
  • Monitor structures such as reservoirs, lifting stations, substations, retaining walls, bridges, tunnels, lagoons, swimming pools, and landscaping structures.
  • Verify that materials incorporated into permanent works have received the required technical approvals.
  • Review and maintain Certificates of Compliance, Safety Data Sheets, inspection tags, and other material-related documentation.
  • Record daily site activities, completed quantities, observations, inspection findings, and construction progress in accurate site diaries.
  • Prepare inspection reports and supporting documentation in accordance with contractual reporting requirements.
  • Identify construction conflicts, technical concerns, workmanship deficiencies, and emerging site problems before they affect subsequent activities.
  • Communicate identified issues to the supervising engineer and contribute practical information toward suitable resolutions.
  • Document nonconforming construction and participate in evaluating corrective measures and close-out actions.
  • Measure and report installed quantities to support verification of contractor payment applications and change order works.
  • Review progress payment estimates and extra work quantities within the inspector 's assigned responsibilities.
  • Maintain relevant as-built records as construction progresses.
  • Coordinate specialist surveying and material testing activities undertaken by subconsultants.
  • Support development and implementation of project quality control procedures and inspection records.
  • Assist with construction safety practices and immediately report hazardous working conditions requiring corrective action.
  • Conduct required labor compliance activities and maintain supporting records.
  • Provide technical direction to junior inspection personnel when assigned.
  • Respond to urgent project-site call-backs when operational or construction circumstances require inspection support.
  • Perform field duties with continuous attention to workforce, site, and public safety.
Ideal Profile

Candidates should hold a diploma or Bachelor 's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline, or possess an equivalent recognized technical qualification. At least 5 years of regional experience in a Structural Inspector capacity is required. Relevant exposure to infrastructure, public works, utilities, or complex civil construction will support effective performance in this position. The role requires practical knowledge of construction processes and public works contracts, together with the ability to interpret structural drawings, plans, specifications, engineering calculations, graphs, and technical documentation. Candidates should understand construction scheduling and be capable of reviewing progress payment estimates, extra work bills, quantities, inspection records, and as-built information. Strong site awareness is essential, particularly the ability to recognize hazardous conditions and take appropriate action to reduce immediate risk. Authority certifications or approvals related to structural inspection are advantageous. Relevant HSE qualifications and construction safety training, including 10-hour OSHA training, are desirable. Clear English communication, reliable technical reporting, good judgment, time management, and the ability to coordinate effectively within a multidisciplinary project team are important requirements.
