Role Context

The Structural Inspector serves as a key field-level quality checkpoint between design requirements and actual construction. The position involves continuous verification of structural works associated with reservoirs, lifting stations, substations, retaining walls, tunnels, bridges, swimming pools, lagoons, landscape structures, and demolition activities. By maintaining reliable inspection records, checking installed quantities, monitoring approved materials, and identifying defects early, the inspector helps protect project quality, commercial accuracy, schedule performance, and public safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect structural works and verify compliance with contract specifications, approved drawings, and project requirements.
  • Review construction activities before acceptance and identify deviations requiring corrective action.
  • Monitor demolition of structural elements and confirm execution follows approved procedures.
  • Inspect structures including reservoirs, lifting stations, retaining walls, substations, tunnels, bridges, lagoons, swimming pools, and landscape-related works.
  • Verify workmanship, dimensions, construction methods, and finished conditions during site inspections.
  • Confirm that only approved materials are incorporated into permanent works.
  • Review and maintain Certificates of Compliance, Safety Data Sheets, inspection tags, and other material-related documentation.
  • Keep organized site files covering inspection records, calculations, reports, and project correspondence.
  • Prepare clear daily diaries describing activities inspected, observations, progress, and outstanding concerns.
  • Produce daily reports and additional documentation required under the project contract.
  • Maintain and review as-built plans based on verified field conditions.
  • Carry out labor compliance interviews where required by project procedures.
  • Identify potential design, construction, sequencing, or site coordination conflicts.
  • Communicate emerging issues to supervisors and provide practical input on possible resolutions.
  • Record nonconforming work and assist with evaluation of corrective measures.
  • Follow up on outstanding defects to verify that agreed remedial work has been completed satisfactorily.
  • Measure or verify installed quantities used to support contractor payment applications.
  • Review quantities relating to variations, change orders, and extra work.
  • Assist in checking progress pay estimates against completed site activities.
  • Coordinate survey verification undertaken by specialist subconsultants.
  • Liaise with material-testing personnel to ensure required testing is performed and documented.
  • Support preparation and implementation of quality control procedures.
  • Contribute inspection findings to project quality reports and compliance records.
  • Assist with development and implementation of safe job practices.
  • Identify hazardous work conditions and take appropriate action in accordance with project procedures.
  • Maintain continuous awareness of public safety while working around active construction areas.
  • Respond to emergency site call-backs when project conditions require attendance.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior inspectors where assigned.
  • Plan inspection priorities around the construction schedule and upcoming work fronts.
  • Maintain effective communication with engineers, contractors, testing teams, surveyors, and other project stakeholders.
  • Carry out additional structural inspection duties consistent with the needs of the project.
Ideal Profile
  • Bachelor 's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working as a Structural Inspector within the region.
  • Practical experience inspecting structural elements on public works, infrastructure, or major construction projects.
  • Good knowledge of public works contracts and construction processes.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, plans, specifications, and approved details.
  • Comfortable working with engineering calculations, charts, quantities, and measurements.
  • Understanding of construction sequencing and basic scheduling principles.
  • Experienced in preparing inspection diaries, daily reports, and structured project records.
  • Able to review installed quantities and support progress payment verification.
  • Familiar with change-order and extra-work quantity checks.
  • Capable of recognizing hazardous site conditions and escalating concerns appropriately.
  • Sound knowledge of quality control and nonconformance procedures.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Able to organize daily inspection activities and prepare for scheduled work in advance.
  • Capable of following technical instructions while applying independent site judgement.
