Role Context
The Senior Project Engineer provides technical leadership across the complete delivery cycle and acts as an important link between project management, engineering disciplines, Operations and external delivery partners. The role is responsible for maintaining execution discipline, resolving technical interfaces and ensuring engineering decisions remain consistent with project scope, governance and operational requirements. Early intervention on risks and constraints helps protect schedule performance, control costs and improve readiness for safe commissioning and start-up.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead project engineering activities across FEED, detailed engineering, construction, pre-commissioning and commissioning stages.
- Develop and critically review Statements of Requirement to ensure project objectives are technically clear and executable.
- Establish project execution strategies covering engineering interfaces, contractor responsibilities and delivery priorities.
- Provide technical input during preparation of tender packages for consultants, PMC services and EPC contractors.
- Participate in technical evaluations and support selection of qualified project delivery partners.
- Review contractor engineering submissions and verify compliance with specifications, scope and approved standards.
- Examine construction methodologies and execution plans for technical suitability and practical implementation.
- Maintain oversight of engineering and construction progress against key project milestones.
- Identify schedule constraints, engineering gaps and interface conflicts before they affect critical activities.
- Direct corrective actions and follow through on recovery measures where project performance requires improvement.
- Lead value engineering exercises aimed at improving lifecycle value and execution efficiency.
- Facilitate constructability reviews and technical workshops involving multiple engineering disciplines.
- Coordinate closely with Central Engineering, Operations, licensors, vendors, contractors and relevant third parties.
- Resolve multidisciplinary interfaces and maintain technical alignment between participating stakeholders.
- Lead technical discussions during design reviews, project meetings and progress tracking sessions.
- Monitor contractor performance and elevate significant deviations affecting technical delivery.
- Coordinate with cost control functions when reviewing project expenditure, invoices and contractor progress.
- Evaluate the technical basis of contractor claims and support commercial negotiations.
- Assist in resolving outstanding contractual matters and completing contract close-out requirements.
- Track project variations and assess potential impact on scope, schedule and cost.
- Maintain active oversight of project risks and identify mitigation measures for emerging technical or execution issues.
- Conduct project risk analysis in accordance with approved governance requirements.
- Lead or support Project HSE Reviews and ATR assessments under ADNOC procedures.
- Confirm that engineering activities comply with applicable technical, quality and safety standards.
- Review site safety audit arrangements and verify effective implementation during project execution.
- Maintain controlled project documentation, technical records and engineering deliverables.
- Prepare close-out information and ensure required technical documentation is complete and traceable.
- Provide accurate engineering and execution inputs for management progress reporting.
- Coordinate pre-commissioning interfaces between contractors, engineering teams and Operations.
- Review commissioning procedures, readiness plans and test documentation.
- Monitor closure of punch list items and ensure outstanding work is addressed before final acceptance.
- Verify project readiness prior to Provisional Acceptance Certificate issuance.
- Facilitate formal handover of completed facilities to Operations.
- Support plant start-up and operational readiness activities following commissioning.
- Promote stronger coordination between Engineering, Projects and Operations to improve execution efficiency.
Ideal Profile
- Bachelor Degree in Engineering.
- Minimum 8 years of project engineering experience within the Oil and Gas industry.
- Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary project engineering activities.
- Strong exposure to FEED, detailed engineering, construction and commissioning environments.
- Experience reviewing complex contractor engineering deliverables and execution methodologies.
- Familiarity with PMC and EPC project structures.
- Ability to manage technical interfaces across engineering disciplines, Operations, licensors and contractors.
- Strong understanding of project risk identification and mitigation.
- Practical knowledge of project cost, contractor claims, variations and schedule control.
- Experience conducting or supporting project assurance and HSE reviews.
- Sound understanding of engineering standards, quality requirements and project governance.
- Experience supporting commissioning, facility acceptance and operational handover.
- Strong technical judgment and the ability to resolve complex project issues efficiently.
- Capable of maintaining delivery momentum while balancing safety, technical integrity, cost and schedule priorities.
