Role Context
The Senior Process Engineer - Major Projects provides the production and process engineering link between operating facilities and major project teams. The position ensures that operational knowledge, plant constraints and production requirements are incorporated into project design and execution before new or modified facilities are handed over to Operations. The engineer will manage process discipline activities across major works, identify interfaces with existing facilities and help resolve design or execution issues that could affect safety, production, injection performance, project cost or schedule. The role requires close collaboration with site teams, multidisciplinary engineering functions, consultants and contractors throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead process engineering involvement in major works from project initiation through implementation, commissioning and closeout.
- Provide site operational experience and process engineering input when defining project scope, objectives and technical deliverables.
- Review facility layouts, plot plans, operating philosophies and control schemes from a process and production perspective.
- Participate in reviews of engineering specifications, operation and maintenance studies and three-dimensional plant models.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams and provide process inputs required for detailed engineering activities.
- Identify and resolve technical conflicts between major project execution plans and ongoing site operations.
- Review engineering packages covering scopes of work, process data sheets, schedules, equipment requirements and technical proposals.
- Assess engineering estimates and technical documentation for compliance with project and operational requirements.
- Review start-up and commissioning procedures applicable to new or modified process facilities.
- Manage process discipline aspects of site execution while maintaining alignment with safe operating requirements.
- Support site management in maintaining production and injection targets during major project activities.
- Identify interface issues between new project facilities, existing plant systems and associated subsystems.
- Develop practical solutions to minimize operational disruption during project implementation.
- Recommend early actions that prevent unnecessary scope changes and reduce potential cost or schedule impacts.
- Establish process engineering criteria for site surveys and field verification activities.
- Participate in installation reviews to confirm that process requirements have been correctly implemented.
- Support pre-commissioning and commissioning activities for newly installed or modified systems.
- Participate in decommissioning planning where existing systems or facilities are being removed or replaced.
- Provide process engineering troubleshooting during project implementation and start-up.
- Advise plant Operations teams on design-related process issues and potential operational solutions.
- Coordinate with site teams to ensure appropriate Operations participation throughout major works execution.
- Maintain effective communication between project teams and site Operations regarding changing project requirements and implementation status.
- Provide timely updates to site Operations teams on major project developments that could affect facility performance.
- Develop Process Flow Diagrams for new systems and process modifications.
- Prepare and review Piping and Instrument Diagrams to ensure process requirements are accurately represented.
- Develop Utility Flow Diagrams for supporting plant systems.
- Prepare cause and effect requirements associated with process design and operational protection systems.
- Define process design specifications required for equipment and system development.
- Perform process equipment sizing calculations for proposed facilities and modifications.
- Calculate process and utility line sizes based on expected operating conditions.
- Prepare flow summaries and process balance information required for engineering development.
- Review technical proposals submitted by consultants and contractors.
- Assess process engineering estimates and assumptions associated with major works.
- Prepare and review scopes of work for technical studies assigned to external consultants or contractors.
- Verify that external engineering work remains aligned with company standards, site requirements and approved project objectives.
- Participate in technical reviews aimed at improving constructability, operability and maintainability.
- Ensure process design decisions reflect actual plant operating constraints and future production requirements.
- Support smooth transition of completed facilities from project teams to Operations.
- Contribute to project closeout by confirming completion of process engineering requirements and outstanding technical actions.
Ideal Profile
The successful candidate will hold a Bachelor 's degree in Engineering, preferably within Chemical, Process or a closely related engineering discipline. Candidates should have practical experience in process engineering within oil and gas production, processing or major project environments. Strong exposure to projects involving existing operating facilities is particularly valuable because the role requires careful management of interfaces between new works and live plant systems. Candidates should be capable of reviewing process engineering documentation including PFDs, PIDs, utility flow diagrams, equipment data sheets and operating philosophies. Experience with equipment sizing, hydraulic calculations, line sizing and process flow assessments will support effective performance. The position requires an understanding of project engineering from concept and detailed design through construction, pre-commissioning, commissioning and handover. Strong troubleshooting capability is important for resolving technical issues during installation, commissioning and start-up.
