Role Overview: The Lead Process Engineer – Technical Authority leads process engineering activities by providing technical authority guidance, improving engineering standards, and ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant process design across major assets and project works within the ADNOC Group.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct, supervise, and coordinate the activities of process engineers within the assigned functional discipline.
- Provide expert technical advice to operations teams on process engineering matters, operational challenges, and plant performance requirements.
- Ensure the technical integrity, quality, and timely completion of process engineering studies, reports, reviews, and technical deliverables.
- Prepare progress reports, performance analysis reports, technical summaries, and recommendations for management review.
- Identify problematic areas in process engineering activities and recommend appropriate corrective or preventive actions.
- Ensure all process engineering work is carried out in accordance with approved policies, procedures, company standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Support the Process section in reaching and maintaining ISO certification by strengthening documentation, compliance, and process controls.
- Review engineering deliverables prepared by EPC contractors, especially those related to process design, control systems, operating philosophy, and technical accuracy.
- Review systems and equipment design to ensure safe, reliable, practical, and operator-friendly plant operations.
- Provide on-site process engineering consultation during construction, pre-commissioning, and commissioning stages of projects.
- Act as the company Technical Authority for process discipline engineering and provide direction on complex technical issues.
- Mediate technical disputes where process engineering interpretation, design direction, or operational requirements may conflict between parties.
- Provide process engineering expertise for the development and authorization of key documents including philosophies, policies, design basis, and engineering guidelines.
- Support process engineering input for assets, major projects, brownfield modifications, and new field development projects.
- Ensure consistency, technical efficiency, and engineering quality across project works involving process systems and operational design requirements.
- Develop, support, and review process engineering standards, codes of practice, and technical specifications.
- Ensure process engineering standards reflect current legislation, recognized best practices, operational lessons learned, and project experience.
- Identify and investigate new technical innovations, process improvements, engineering methods, and design enhancements that can support business goals.
- Recommend suitable technical developments to improve process performance, safety, project delivery, and operational effectiveness.
- Ensure process engineering representation is available for HSE-driven studies, reviews, and technical workshops.
- Support HSE studies by providing process expertise for hazard reviews, safety workshops, risk assessments, and design assurance activities.
- Coordinate with operations, maintenance, projects, HSE, engineering contractors, and other stakeholders to support safe and efficient project execution.
Ideal Profile
- Bachelor Degree in Chemical Engineering or an equivalent engineering discipline.
- Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in the Oil and Energy industry, preferably within upstream, downstream, gas processing, refining, petrochemical, or large industrial operations.
- Strong background in process engineering, technical studies, process design review, and operational support.
- Experience supervising or coordinating engineers within a process engineering function.
- Proven ability to review EPC contractor deliverables related to process systems, controls, design basis, philosophies, and technical specifications.
- Strong understanding of process design principles, plant operations, equipment design, safe operability, and process control requirements.
- Experience providing technical support during construction, pre-commissioning, and commissioning phases.
- Ability to act as a technical authority and provide sound engineering judgment in complex or disputed technical matters.
- Knowledge of ISO certification requirements, engineering governance, regulatory standards, and internal process controls.
- Strong understanding of process engineering standards, codes of practice, technical specifications, and legislative requirements.
- Ability to support HSE studies, process safety workshops, hazard reviews, and technical risk assessments.
- Skilled in preparing performance analysis reports, progress summaries, technical recommendations, and management-level engineering inputs.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to work across operations, projects, engineering, HSE, and EPC contractor teams.
- Able to identify technical innovations and process improvements that support safety, efficiency, reliability, and business performance.
