Role Context
The role supports the digital delivery of infrastructure projects by transforming engineering inputs into accurate, coordinated models and technical drawings. Working across utility corridors and multidisciplinary interfaces, the Senior BIM CAD Technician will take ownership of model preparation, pipe network development, clash resolution, drawing control, and structured project information. The quality of this work directly influences design coordination, submission efficiency, quantity accuracy, and the prevention of costly conflicts during construction.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce and update BIM models and CAD documentation for wet and dry utility infrastructure.
- Coordinate closely with BIM and CAD management, Design Leads, and Engineers to maintain project delivery requirements and submission dates.
- Convert engineering concepts, sketches, and technical information into layouts, assemblies, flow sheets, isometrics, and detailed drawings.
- Develop utility pipe network models and integrate them with surrounding infrastructure and existing services.
- Manage assigned modelling activities from initial project setup through design development and final model completion.
- Review multidisciplinary inputs and identify clashes, missing information, routing conflicts, and design inconsistencies.
- Perform clash detection and coordinate the resolution of identified model issues with relevant disciplines.
- Check drawings for clarity, accuracy, presentation quality, and compliance with established CAD and BIM procedures.
- Carry out model and drawing checks in accordance with project QA-QC requirements.
- Develop parametric and non-parametric content to meet specific modelling needs.
- Extract schedules and quantities from models to support design reviews and project deliverables.
- Prepare utility routing plans, right-of-way information, cross sections, and coordinated infrastructure layouts.
- Maintain clear records of model revisions, drawing modifications, technical updates, and design changes.
- Organize completed models, drawings, and supporting documentation within controlled digital archives.
- Use Common Data Environment platforms to manage model production, information exchange, and document traceability.
- Coordinate utility interfaces with roads, structures, drainage systems, and other engineering disciplines.
- Apply relevant DEWA, Dubai Municipality, and RTA standards when developing infrastructure documentation.
- Assist in resolving complex design coordination issues before they affect formal submissions or downstream activities.
- Improve CAD production methods and software configurations to support efficient design workflows.
- Contribute technical knowledge to BIM team development and internal knowledge-sharing activities.
Ideal Profile
The position requires a bachelor 's degree or diploma in Civil Engineering together with substantial BIM and CAD experience on infrastructure projects.
- Minimum 10 years of CAD drafting and BIM experience within the UAE or wider MEA region.
- At least 3 years of specific Utility Pipe Network Modelling experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of wet and dry utility model and layout preparation.
- Advanced capability in AutoCAD, Autodesk Civil 3D, and Navisworks.
- Strong experience with Common Data Environment workflows and model information management.
- Working expertise in Autodesk Forma and Bentley ProjectWise.
- Sound understanding of BIM processes and LOD requirements.
- Knowledge of ISO 19650 principles and information management practices is desirable.
- Practical familiarity with DEWA, Dubai Municipality, and RTA standards.
- Understanding of existing utility coordination within developed infrastructure corridors.
- MicroStation knowledge is preferred.
- Experience preparing right-of-way layouts, routing plans, and cross sections.
- Ability to diagnose modelling conflicts and develop workable technical solutions.
- Strong organizational capability when managing several project deliverables simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
