- Maintain complete knowledge of the dining room layout, table and section numbers, seating arrangements, restaurant capacity, operating hours, price range and dress code.
- Understand and follow restaurant reservation procedures and departmental service standards.
- Remain informed about daily hotel occupancy, arrivals, departures, VIP guests and scheduled in-house group activities.
- Answer telephone calls within three rings using the appropriate greeting and professional telephone etiquette.
- Record and confirm restaurant reservations and cancellations accurately.
- Communicate reservation and cancellation changes to management throughout the shift.
- Review the reservation book, pre-assign designated tables and follow up on special requests.
- Greet guests warmly at the restaurant entrance and guide them to their designated tables.
- Allocate seating according to the floor plan while maintaining a fair distribution among service colleagues.
- Confirm that guests are comfortable with their designated tables and present menus appropriately.
- Ensure tables are correctly prepared to support efficient guest service.
- Anticipate busy periods and help organize procedures for managing waiting guests.
- Anticipate guest needs and respond promptly regardless of the level of business.
- Maintain positive guest relations throughout the dining experience.
- Remain familiar with hotel services and activities to answer guest enquiries accurately.
- Address guest concerns using the hotel 's established service-recovery procedures and involve management when appropriate.
- Monitor guest reactions and communicate regularly with management to support guest satisfaction.
- Conduct systematic table visits during meal periods to check guest satisfaction.
Daily Standards and Team Support
- Ensure menus and check folders are clean and available in sufficient quantities.
- Keep the hostess stand clean, organized and ready for service.
- Help ensure tables are cleared and reset according to departmental procedures.
- Maintain the cleanliness and working condition of equipment and supplies within the assigned section.
- Assist restaurant colleagues with service duties when requested.
- Promote a cooperative working environment focused on service quality and productivity.
- Promote the hotel 's Food and Beverage outlets to guests during appropriate periods.
- Assist the Supervisor with established cashiering procedures and accurate balancing.
- Assist with menu printing when required.
- Complete the required training process and attend scheduled training sessions and meetings.
- Report for duty punctually in the correct uniform and name tag while maintaining the hotel 's required standards of appearance and hygiene.
- Provide friendly, courteous and professional service at all times.
- Maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and other hotel departments.
- Follow applicable hotel rules and procedures relating to fire safety, hygiene, health and safety.
- Comply with applicable local requirements.
- Remain flexible in response to operational changes and reasonable duties within the scope of the role, including support in alternative areas when required by business or guest-service needs.
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma or degree in vocational hospitality.
- Fresh graduates may be considered.
- Up to 1 year of experience in a 4-5 star hotel is relevant to the role.
