Role Context
The Hostess creates the first and last impression of the restaurant experience by managing arrivals, reservations, seating flow, and guest communication. The position helps balance table allocation across service sections, supports efficient coordination with restaurant teams, and ensures special requests are properly communicated. Key Responsibilities
- Maintain complete knowledge of the restaurant layout, table numbers, seating sections, capacity, operating hours, service periods, price range, and dress requirements.
- Understand and follow established restaurant reservation and cancellation procedures.
- Stay informed about daily hotel occupancy, arrivals, departures, VIP guests, group activities, and relevant in-house events.
- Answer telephone calls promptly using professional greetings and established telephone etiquette.
- Record, amend, confirm, and cancel restaurant reservations accurately according to departmental procedures.
- Communicate reservation changes, special requests, and cancellations to restaurant management throughout the shift.
- Review reservation records before service and pre-assign tables according to guest requirements and operating needs.
- Prepare the hostess station before opening and ensure menus, check folders, reservation materials, and related supplies are clean and available.
- Welcome guests at the restaurant entrance with a friendly and professional approach.
- Escort guests to designated tables and confirm that seating arrangements meet their expectations.
- Allocate tables fairly across waiter sections while considering reservations, party size, special requests, and restaurant capacity.
- Present menus professionally and provide initial information about the restaurant when required.
- Anticipate busy periods and support organised waiting-list procedures to maintain efficient guest flow.
- Respond promptly to guest needs, enquiries, and special requests even during high-volume service.
- Maintain positive guest relationships and provide accurate information about hotel facilities, dining outlets, activities, and services.
- Address straightforward guest concerns immediately and escalation unresolved complaints according to service recovery procedures.
- Observe guest reactions and communicate regularly with management to help maintain satisfaction throughout the meal period.
- Conduct table visits when required to check guest satisfaction and identify service concerns.
- Assist restaurant colleagues with table clearing, resetting, and other service duties during busy periods.
- Monitor the cleanliness, presentation, and working condition of the hostess station and associated equipment.
- Promote other food and beverage outlets and hotel dining experiences when suitable opportunities arise.
- Support supervisors with cashiering procedures and help ensure transactions are accurately handled and balanced.
- Assist with menu preparation and printing when required.
- Maintain professional grooming, correct uniform standards, punctuality, and personal hygiene.
- Follow hotel policies relating to fire safety, hygiene, health and safety, workplace conduct, and applicable local requirements.
- Participate in departmental training, briefings, and meetings and remain flexible to support other operational areas when business demand requires assistance.
Ideal Profile
- Diploma or degree in vocational hospitality or a comparable qualification.
- Fresher candidates may be considered, while up to 1 year of experience in a 4-5 star hotel is advantageous.
