The Hostess is one of the first points of contact for guests entering the restaurant and plays an important role in shaping their initial impression of the outlet. The position combines guest reception, seating coordination, front-desk organization and close cooperation with waiters, supervisors and cashiers to maintain an orderly and professional dining environment. Success in the role depends on anticipating guest needs, communicating clearly and keeping the entrance continuously attended. By supporting efficient seating, accurate guest records and smooth coordination between service teams, the hostess helps improve guest satisfaction and overall outlet performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Welcome guests promptly and courteously on arrival at the food and beverage outlet.
• Manage seating arrangements in coordination with restaurant service teams and operational requirements.
• Ensure the restaurant entrance remains professionally attended throughout service periods.
• Build a warm yet discreet relationship with guests while maintaining Swissotel service standards.
• Assist guests with general information about menus, promotions, dining options and outlet services.
• Work closely with waiters, supervisors and the Restaurant Manager to support efficient front-of-house operations.
• Prepare the assigned outlet for opening according to meal periods, operating schedules and established service procedures.
• Support mise-en-place, table preparation and other front-of-house activities when operational demand requires assistance.
• Maintain accurate guest information, business cards and relevant database records according to outlet procedures.
• Check that name tags, guest records and front-desk materials are complete and correctly positioned.
• Coordinate with the cashier and service team to ensure bills and payment-related documentation are handled properly.
• Use restaurant computer systems and point-of-sale applications when required.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of menus, promotions, special events and current outlet information.
• Identify guest needs early and coordinate appropriate service support before issues develop.
• Handle basic guest concerns professionally and involve the immediate supervisor when further action is required.
• Attend regular training covering guest care, product knowledge, grooming standards, up-selling and operating procedures.
• Maintain excellent personal grooming, hygiene and uniform standards during every shift.
• Report cleanliness, equipment or maintenance concerns to the appropriate supervisor or department.
• Participate in departmental briefings and maintain clear communication with colleagues across the outlet.
• Follow hotel fire, hygiene, health, safety and internal operating procedures.
• Remain familiar with departmental manuals, service standards and relevant company documentation.
• Assist other hotel areas when business levels or operational requirements demand additional support.
• Contribute to outlet revenue goals by supporting efficient service, positive guest experiences and appropriate promotional awareness.

Ideal Profile

The position is suited to a college graduate with at least one year of proven experience as a food and beverage hostess or in a comparable guest-facing hospitality role. Previous experience in a hotel restaurant, premium dining outlet or similarly structured food and beverage environment would be highly relevant. Candidates should be comfortable interacting with international guests while maintaining composure during busy meal periods. Strong written and spoken English is required, together with confident interpersonal communication and a consistently professional manner. The role also requires practical familiarity with computer systems and point-of-sale software. The successful candidate should demonstrate strong personal presentation, attention to detail and the ability to coordinate smoothly with restaurant colleagues while maintaining a welcoming atmosphere for every guest.
