Job description
Overview

NYU Abu Dhabi invites applications for a Postdoctoral Associate in remote sensing to document and analyze spatial and temporal trends in coastal change in the United Arab Emirates and surrounding Arabian Gulf nations.

Responsibilities
  • Document and analyze spatial and temporal trends in coastal change using past and contemporary imagery.
  • Work under Prof. John Burt within the Center for Interacting Urban Networks (CITIES) and collaborate with researchers from marine biology, climate science, genomics, systems biology, and water research centers.
  • Integrate remote sensing data with ecological and social impact studies to assess coastal modification, urbanization expansion, and their effects on coastal ecosystems.
  • Develop recommendations for policy makers to enhance the sustainability of coastal development.
Qualifications
  • PhD in environmental science, geospatial sciences, or related fields, or a Masters with a very strong relevant publication record.
  • First‑author publishing experience relevant to the job description.
  • Extensive experience in coastal habitat and infrastructure analysis.
  • Experience with Google Earth Engine analytical toolkits and GIS integration (asset).
  • Ground‑truthing experience preferred; boating and/or SCUBA experience an asset.
