Job Context
The Personal Service Technician - Diagnostics will combine the responsibilities of a senior diagnostic technician with customer‑facing service coordination. The role requires ownership of the vehicle service process, including appointment planning, technical assessment, repair execution, customer communication, work order administration, and vehicle delivery. Working within the Polestar Aftersales team, the technician will help improve workshop efficiency, repair quality, customer trust, and electric mobility service capability. The position also contributes to technical development by supporting junior technicians and sharing diagnostic knowledge across the workshop.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage customer service appointments from initial booking through vehicle handover.
- Review customer concerns and obtain complete information about reported vehicle symptoms.
- Schedule workshop activities according to vehicle requirements, technician availability, and promised delivery times.
- Welcome customers professionally and explain the service process clearly.
- Conduct vehicle reception checks and record relevant condition, mileage, warning messages, and customer observations.
- Prepare accurate work orders and ensure all requested work is properly documented.
- Perform advanced diagnostic testing on electrical, mechanical, electronic, and software‑related vehicle systems.
- Use Polestar and OEM diagnostic platforms to identify faults accurately.
- Interpret diagnostic trouble codes, live data, system readings, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Carry out complex fault‑finding procedures using approved diagnostic methods.
- Perform periodic maintenance, repairs, component replacement, software‑related procedures, and accessory installation.
- Follow Polestar repair manuals, technical instructions, service bulletins, and quality requirements.
- Complete all repairs according to approved technical and safety standards.
- Apply the Fix It Right process to improve first‑time repair performance.
- Verify that identified faults have been resolved before vehicle release.
- Conduct post‑repair testing and quality inspections where required.
- Record diagnostic findings, repair actions, measurements, and test results accurately.
- Maintain complete Electronic Vehicle Check records.
- Prepare clear technical reports that explain faults, recommendations, and completed work.
- Communicate technical findings to customers in clear and professional language.
- Explain repair requirements, estimated costs, service recommendations, and expected completion times.
- Obtain customer approval before completing additional work outside the original service request.
- Provide timely updates if repairs, parts availability, or technical findings affect delivery commitments.
- Review completed work and invoices with customers during vehicle handover.
- Ensure customers understand the repairs performed and any future maintenance requirements.
- Process warranty, goodwill, leasing, and insurance‑related documentation accurately.
- Follow approved warranty policies, claim requirements, coding standards, and supporting evidence procedures.
- Maintain accurate work order, labour, parts, customer, and invoicing information.
- Use Dealer Management Systems and workshop platforms correctly.
- Coordinate with parts, service, warranty, technical support, and workshop colleagues.
- Support daily workshop productivity, efficiency, and vehicle throughput targets.
- Complete assigned repairs within approved labour times without compromising quality.
- Escalate complex technical cases to the appropriate technical support channel.
- Maintain workshop tools, special service equipment, and diagnostic devices in good condition.
- Confirm that measuring and diagnostic equipment remains calibrated and updated.
- Report damaged, missing, or unreliable tools and equipment promptly.
- Follow health, safety, security, and environmental requirements throughout all workshop activities.
- Maintain compliance with 5S workplace organization principles.
- Keep work bays, equipment, tools, and vehicle protection materials clean and properly arranged.
- Follow electric vehicle and high‑voltage safety procedures where applicable.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment and approved isolation practices.
- Mentor junior technicians and provide practical technical guidance.
- Support fault diagnosis training and workshop capability development.
- Share lessons learned from complex repairs and recurring technical concerns.
- Participate in technical training, product updates, service meetings, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain current knowledge of Polestar technology, electric vehicles, diagnostic systems, and repair methods.
Ideal Profile
- IMI Light Vehicle Master Technician Level 3‑4 qualification or equivalent.
- Advanced OEM certification such as Diagnostic Master, Gold Technician, Level 3 Technician, or an equivalent credential.
- Minimum 6‑7 years of experience as a Light Vehicle Technician.
- At least 2 years of direct experience as a Diagnostic Technician.
- Previous experience within an authorized automotive dealership is preferred.
- Customer‑facing automotive service experience or previous Service Advisor exposure is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of vehicle electrical, mechanical, electronic, and computer‑controlled systems.
- Advanced diagnostic and fault‑finding capability.
- Experience working with electric vehicles, hybrid systems, or advanced automotive technologies is advantageous.
- Ability to use OEM diagnostic software, special service tools, test equipment, and workshop systems.
- Skilled in interpreting wiring diagrams, repair manuals, technical bulletins, and diagnostic data.
- Practical understanding of workshop operations, repair processes, warranty requirements, and quality controls.
- Ability to explain technical issues clearly to customers and non‑technical colleagues.
- Strong written communication skills for preparing diagnostic reports and repair findings.
