Role Context
The Workshop Team Leader will guide the Volvo Personal Service team through daily planning, technical support, performance coaching, and continuous improvement. The role connects workshop productivity with customer satisfaction by reducing delays, resolving operational problems, developing technician capability, and maintaining consistent service standards. Effective leadership will help achieve strong productivity, higher customer retention, improved value-added service sales, and reliable workshop performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coach the Volvo Personal Service team to improve customer experience, productivity, repair quality, and cost efficiency.
- Conduct daily workshop meetings to review priorities, work progress, technical issues, staffing needs, and operational concerns.
- Encourage technicians to report problems early so that delays and lost productive hours can be prevented.
- Maintain workshop work in progress below two days of available capacity.
- Review team performance indicators and keep the visual planning board accurate and current.
- Pre-check daily appointments, repair orders, technician availability, parts readiness, and expected support requirements.
- Adjust production plans when workloads, technical problems, or staffing conditions change.
- Provide first-line support when technicians face repair, workflow, planning, or administrative difficulties.
- Assist with minor vehicle repairs and technical diagnosis when additional workshop support is required.
- Coach technicians in mechanical, electrical, electric vehicle, and administrative work practices.
- Support the team in achieving Volvo technical competency and certification targets.
- Coordinate workshop improvement projects aimed at increasing productivity by at least 10 percent annually.
- Monitor individual and team productivity with the objective of maintaining performance above 100 percent.
- Help achieve customer satisfaction targets, including a Net Promoter Score above 70 percent.
- Maintain 5S workplace principles and ensure workshop audit findings are resolved without open points.
- Improve technician confidence in recommending suitable value-added services.
- Support sales targets for accessories, tires, batteries, tinting, and other approved aftersales products.
- Identify inactive customers and encourage appropriate service follow-up to support retention above 70 percent.
- Ensure technicians complete all required customer follow-up calls after service visits.
- Record technician training needs, completed courses, assessment outcomes, and certification progress.
- Coordinate with Al-Futtaim Automotive Academy for technical assessments, training plans, and skill development.
- Deliver on-the-job coaching based on workshop output, repair quality, and identified business needs.
- Support employee engagement by maintaining fair communication, clear expectations, and practical development opportunities.
- Handle customer concerns professionally and support the resolution of technical or service complaints.
- Promote safe use of workshop tools, diagnostic equipment, lifting systems, and electric vehicle service equipment.
- Follow Al-Futtaim and Volvo procedures covering quality, customer care, workshop control, and technical operations.
Ideal Profile
The preferred candidate holds a bachelor 's degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Automobile Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical discipline. Applicants must have at least five years of experience as a technical lead, workshop team leader, diagnostic technician, or senior technician within an established automotive dealership. Advanced knowledge of electric vehicle systems is required. Candidates should hold relevant advanced EV technical certification together with AATC, IMI Level 4, or comparable professional credentials. A valid UAE driving licence is mandatory. The role also requires practical experience in technician coaching, workshop planning, customer complaint handling, technical diagnosis, service productivity, and performance monitoring. The successful professional will communicate clearly, solve operational problems calmly, and provide effective leadership in a fast-moving workshop environment.
