Role Context
The Mathematics HOD provides academic direction for the department and acts as a key link between classroom teachers and school leadership. The position is responsible for improving instructional practice, supporting curriculum consistency, mentoring teachers, analyzing student performance, and ensuring that Mathematics teaching maintains strong academic standards. Effective leadership in this role directly influences classroom quality, teacher capability, and student outcomes across the department.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the Mathematics department and maintain consistent academic standards across grade levels.
- Work directly with Mathematics teachers to improve subject knowledge, pedagogy, planning, and classroom practice.
- Coach teachers through observation, feedback, mentoring, and professional discussion.
- Support teachers in developing lessons that improve student engagement and achievement.
- Coordinate departmental curriculum planning in line with CBSE academic requirements.
- Ensure schemes of work, lesson plans, assessments, and learning objectives are appropriately structured.
- Contribute actively to team planning and departmental decision-making.
- Work with school leaders to identify priorities for academic improvement.
- Monitor student performance data and identify trends requiring intervention.
- Develop strategies to address attainment gaps and improve Mathematics outcomes.
- Review assessment quality and promote consistent marking and moderation practices.
- Support teachers in designing assessments that measure knowledge, application, reasoning, and problem-solving.
- Promote effective use of data to guide teaching and student support.
- Be familiar with the UAE framework of teaching and apply its expectations across the department.
- Support teachers in achieving and sustaining a standard of good teaching in lessons.
- Conduct classroom observations and provide practical improvement guidance.
- Identify professional development needs within the Mathematics team.
- Facilitate departmental training, workshops, and collaborative planning sessions.
- Promote innovative and evidence-informed Mathematics teaching approaches.
- Strengthen differentiated instruction for students with varied learning needs.
- Support intervention and enrichment programs across the department.
- Encourage consistent use of educational technology and suitable digital Mathematics resources.
- Maintain effective communication with school leadership regarding departmental performance.
- Contribute to school improvement planning and academic review processes.
- Support parent communication where significant Mathematics progress or attainment issues arise.
- Maintain accurate departmental records, reports, and academic documentation.
- Ensure departmental practices support student safeguarding and wellbeing.

Ideal Profile
- Bachelor of Science in Mathematics.
- Master of Science in Mathematics.
- Bachelor of Education qualification.
- Degrees obtained through distance or open university study are not accepted.
- Strong Mathematics subject knowledge across relevant CBSE grade levels.
- Previous experience in Mathematics teaching and academic coordination is highly relevant.
- Department leadership or coordinator experience is preferred.
- Good understanding of CBSE curriculum and assessment expectations.
- Familiarity with the UAE framework of teaching.
- Ability to evaluate teaching quality and provide actionable feedback.
- Strong curriculum planning and assessment capability.
- Experience using student performance data to improve academic outcomes.
