Role Context
The Head of Department – Mathematics will lead the Mathematics department with responsibility for teaching quality, curriculum consistency, assessment planning, staff development, and measurable student progress. The role requires a leader who can balance strong classroom expertise with practical academic management, ensuring that Mathematics teaching remains engaging, challenging, data-informed, and aligned with UAE educational standards. By supporting teachers and working closely with school leadership, the successful candidate will help build a department culture focused on excellence, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Mathematics Department to maintain high standards of teaching, learning, assessment, and student achievement.
- Work directly with Mathematics teachers to strengthen subject knowledge, lesson delivery, classroom practice, and pedagogical methods.
- Support teachers through coaching, planning guidance, lesson review, constructive feedback, and professional development conversations.
- Contribute to curriculum planning, assessment design, department improvement plans, and academic development initiatives.
- Collaborate with school leadership to support academic excellence, inspection readiness, and continuous improvement across Mathematics.
- Monitor the quality of teaching and learning through lesson observations, work reviews, student feedback, and progress data.
- Ensure Mathematics lessons meet UAE educational standards and support a consistent minimum standard of good teaching.
- Analyze student performance data to identify learning gaps, attainment trends, progress concerns, and intervention priorities.
- Develop practical strategies to improve student attainment, examination readiness, problem‑solving ability, and mathematical confidence.
- Review schemes of work, lesson sequencing, assessment calendars, marking standards, and moderation processes.
- Promote effective teaching approaches that improve numeracy, reasoning, algebraic understanding, geometry, statistics, and applied Mathematics skills.
- Encourage collaboration within the department so that teachers share resources, strategies, assessment insights, and improvement ideas.
- Maintain accurate department records, curriculum documents, assessment data, progress reports, and academic action plans.
- Communicate professionally with teachers, students, parents, coordinators, and school leaders on academic progress and department priorities.
- Carry out additional responsibilities related to the effective leadership, administration, and development of the Mathematics department.
Ideal Profile
- Bachelor of Science in Mathematics (required)
- Master of Science in Mathematics (required)
- Bachelor of Education or Master of Education (required)
- Degrees obtained through distance learning or open universities will not be considered.
- Previous leadership experience within a Mathematics department in the UAE is preferred.
- Strong experience teaching Mathematics within a UK curriculum school environment is highly desirable.
- Excellent Mathematics subject knowledge with the ability to guide teachers and support higher student achievement.
- Strong understanding of curriculum planning, assessment standards, student progress tracking, and departmental improvement.
- Confident in using student performance data to plan interventions and improve attainment.
- Strong command of English, both written and spoken.
- Excellent leadership, communication, organization, mentoring, and team collaboration skills.
- Able to work closely with school leadership and contribute meaningfully to academic improvement priorities.
- Must be currently available in the UAE.
