Role Context
The Land Surveyor - Roads and Infrastructure will provide field-based surveying control across road, utility, structural, and associated civil works. The position ensures that construction is executed according to approved coordinates, elevations, tolerances, and design information before works are accepted or covered. Accurate verification of contractor surveys, utility installations, earthworks, and as‑built information will directly support quality control, payment measurement, handover, and successful infrastructure delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Review contract documents, construction drawings, specifications, survey information, and applicable authority standards before field activities begin.
- Establish, verify, and maintain horizontal and vertical survey control points, benchmarks, and traverse networks.
- Coordinate with contractor surveyors to confirm control data, site benchmarks, and layout information before construction.
- Check setting-out for roads, structures, utilities, chambers, ducts, and other infrastructure elements.
- Verify horizontal alignment, coordinates, elevations, gradients, dimensions, and construction tolerances against approved drawings.
- Monitor excavation depths, formation levels, backfilling, and compaction layers to confirm compliance with design requirements.
- Inspect utility installations and verify chamber positions, duct routes, cover levels, invert levels, and horizontal alignment before backfilling.
- Conduct topographic surveys and verify field data used for design updates and construction records.
- Carry out as-built surveys and confirm that submitted information accurately represents completed works.
- Check contractor survey records and identify discrepancies requiring correction.
- Support the Resident Engineer and Assistant Resident Engineer in reviewing survey-related issues and issuing site instructions where required.
- Maintain accurate field books, survey reports, control records, calculations, and verification documentation.
- Ensure survey instruments remain properly calibrated and maintained in accordance with QA-QC requirements.
- Perform joint surveys with contractors and client representatives for completed work measurement, payment quantities, and handover verification.
- Confirm roads, utilities, and structures are positioned at approved levels and alignments before subsequent works proceed.
- Coordinate survey interfaces between different contractors, construction packages, and disciplines.
- Report incorrect setting-out, deviations, or measurement discrepancies promptly to the Resident Engineer or Assistant Resident Engineer.
- Monitor contractor compliance with approved surveying method statements and site procedures.
- Observe HSE requirements during field surveying operations and report unsafe practices when identified.
Ideal Profile
- Minimum 7 years of professional surveying experience on roads and infrastructure projects.
- Strong practical background in construction site surveying and independent verification of contractor work.
- Experience with road alignments, utilities, structures, earthworks, chambers, and associated civil infrastructure.
- Proven capability in establishing and maintaining horizontal and vertical control systems.
- Experience conducting topographic, setting‑out, verification, and as‑built surveys.
- Skilled in checking utility installation levels, coordinates, cover requirements, and structural locations.
- Previous involvement in joint measurement activities for progress verification and payment purposes.
- Familiarity with Dubai and UAE construction standards, authority procedures, and infrastructure requirements.
- RTA approval is preferred.
- Able to interpret engineering drawings, coordinates, profiles, levels, and technical specifications accurately.
- Strong experience coordinating with contractor surveyors, engineering teams, inspectors, and client representatives.
- Careful and systematic approach to field records, calculations, measurement verification, and survey documentation.
- Good understanding of QA‑QC procedures and survey equipment calibration requirements.
