Role Context

The Land Surveyor - Infrastructure Survey role is responsible for ensuring that construction works are executed to the correct levels, coordinates, alignments, tolerances, and authority requirements. The position supports infrastructure project delivery by checking contractor survey works, establishing control points, verifying roads and utilities, reviewing as‑built information, and helping the Resident Engineer and Assistant Resident Engineer resolve site discrepancies. The role is especially important for stormwater drainage, microtunneling, wet and dry utilities, shafts, chambers, roads, and other civil works where survey accuracy directly affects quality, safety, payment certification, and handover readiness.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review project contract documents, approved drawings, specifications, IFC drawings, and authority requirements before survey execution.
  • Establish, verify, and maintain primary horizontal and vertical control points, site benchmarks, traverse networks, and reference points.
  • Coordinate with the contractor's surveyor to verify benchmarks, layout data, control points, and site survey information before construction begins.
  • Check and verify setting‑out works for roads, wet utilities, dry utilities, structures, chambers, ducts, pipelines, shafts, and other civil works.
  • Confirm that alignments, coordinates, levels, pipe inverts, cover levels, tunnel drives, and shaft positions match approved drawings and project tolerances.
  • Monitor excavation levels, backfilling, compaction layers, design grades, and formation levels during construction activities.
  • Inspect and confirm correct installation of utilities, chambers, ducts, pipelines, and related infrastructure based on approved survey data.
  • Conduct topographic surveys, control surveys, joint surveys, and as‑built surveys for infrastructure and utility works.
  • Verify contractor as‑built drawings, survey data, levels, and coordinates before approval submission, payment certification, and handover.
  • Check that survey instruments are calibrated, maintained, and used in line with project QA/QC requirements and approved procedures.
  • Assist the Resident Engineer and Assistant Resident Engineer in reviewing contractor survey works and identifying discrepancies.
  • Prepare survey reports, maintain field books, record measurements, document survey data, and ensure traceability of all verification activities.
  • Ensure the contractor's survey team follows approved method statements, calibration procedures, quality requirements, and safety procedures.
  • Perform joint surveys with contractors and client representatives for payment quantities, measurement verification, progress checks, and completion records.
  • Verify that utilities and structures are constructed to correct levels and alignments before covering, backfilling, or progressing to the next activity.
  • Participate in resolving survey‑related conflicts between design drawings, field conditions, utility interfaces, and contractor execution.
  • Report discrepancies, deviations, setting‑out errors, unsafe practices, or construction alignment issues to the Resident Engineer or Assistant Resident Engineer.
  • Use AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GPS, Total Station, and surveying software to process field data and support accurate survey outputs.
  • Apply RTA, Dubai Municipality, DEWA, UAE construction standards, and Dubai infrastructure procedures during field checks and documentation.
  • Monitor HSE compliance during survey activities and report unsafe site practices, especially around excavations, shafts, tunnels, and active construction zones.
Ideal Profile
  • Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Relevant university or college qualification, including minimum 3 years Diploma in Civil Engineering or Surveying.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in surveying and setting‑out for infrastructure projects.
  • Strong experience in stormwater drainage, microtunneling works, deep pipeline construction, shaft construction, utilities, and tunnel alignment monitoring.
  • RTA approval and certification for microtunneling works is mandatory.
  • RTA or Dubai Municipality approval is preferred.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GPS, Total Station, and professional surveying software.
  • Strong understanding of coordinate systems, datum control, vertical alignment verification, benchmarks, control networks, and construction tolerances.
  • Familiarity with RTA, Dubai Municipality, DEWA, and UAE standards for utility and infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of Dubai construction standards, infrastructure procedures, site supervision requirements, and authority expectations.
  • Ability to read and interpret contract documents, approved drawings, specifications, IFC drawings, shop drawings, and method statements.
  • Strong mathematical ability with excellent problem‑solving skills and high attention to detail.
  • Good physical fitness for regular fieldwork in construction environments.
  • Valid driver's license.
