Role Context
The Housekeeping Supervisor is responsible for maintaining consistent cleanliness and presentation standards across both hotel and residential accommodation. The role coordinates room attendants and outsourced cleaning personnel, ensures vacant and arriving rooms are inspected on time, balances staffing between hotel and residence operations, and helps ensure guests and residents receive a reliable and polished service experience. The position also contributes to commercial performance by supporting a la carte residential services, encouraging appropriate upselling, monitoring revenue targets, and ensuring employees understand available services. Effective supervision helps protect room readiness, cleanliness scores, resource efficiency, employee productivity, and guest satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Allocate outsourced cleaning personnel daily to ensure public areas throughout the residences are cleaned according to required standards.
- Review employee schedules and annual leave plans to maintain appropriate staffing levels across hotel and residential operations.
- Balance housekeeping room attendant assignments between hotel rooms and residences according to operational demand.
- Monitor employee grooming and ensure team presentation complies with established hotel standards.
- Inspect guest apartments and ensure cleanliness remains consistent with a la carte service standards.
- Verify that hotel rooms meet approved housekeeping and presentation requirements.
- Inspect vacant rooms, checkout rooms, and departures each day.
- Ensure late arrivals, overnight arrivals, and early arrivals have fully inspected rooms ready before guest arrival.
- Coordinate with Front Office Supervisors to obtain group rooming lists and prepare assigned rooms at least two hours before scheduled group arrival.
- Submit room discrepancy reports to Front Office Supervisors twice daily.
- Monitor housekeeping employee performance and identify areas where additional coaching or training is required.
- Conduct daily housekeeping briefings and monthly employee meetings.
- Reinforce cleaning procedures, service expectations, operational priorities, and guest requirements with the team.
- Lead and support employees in achieving operational, financial, and service delivery objectives.
- Build a practical, solution-oriented working environment that encourages engagement, accountability, and service improvement.
- Provide regular feedback to employees and encourage suggestions that improve housekeeping operations.
- Maintain full understanding of hotel fire, hygiene, health, safety, and security procedures.
- Ensure housekeeping activities comply with applicable safety and hygiene requirements.
- Support performance management activities including coaching, counselling, appraisals, and employee development in coordination with Talent and Culture.
- Ensure housekeeping employees understand available sales and service opportunities within the residences.
- Keep employees informed about a la carte service revenue targets and relevant performance results.
- Encourage housekeeping personnel to identify suitable opportunities to promote residential services.
- Ensure team members understand the range of a la carte services available to residents.
- Train employees to explain and appropriately upsell hotel and residential services.
- Attend training programs and operational meetings as required.
- Report damaged furnishings, fixtures, equipment, or facilities to the Executive Housekeeper and Engineering Department.
- Follow up on reported maintenance issues that could affect room readiness or guest satisfaction.
- Handle guest and resident complaints professionally and keep the Executive Housekeeper and Front Office Supervisors informed.
- Ensure team members greet residents and guests appropriately and use guest names where possible.
- Maintain courteous communication between employees, residents, guests, and other departments.
- Anticipate guest and resident needs and respond promptly to improve satisfaction and service quality.
- Promote available a la carte services when relevant to resident requirements.
- Seek guest and resident feedback to identify opportunities for service improvement.
- Maintain awareness of the a la carte services marketing program and communicate appropriate recommendations to residents.
- Support environmentally responsible housekeeping practices across hotel and residence operations.
- Improve energy and water efficiency through responsible operating procedures.
- Reduce unnecessary waste and support sustainable purchasing decisions.
- Ensure environmental procedures and required compliance records are maintained accurately.
- Develop, review, and update housekeeping policies, procedures, and cleaning checklists for both hotel and residential areas.
- Maintain appropriate par levels for cleaning chemicals, supplies, equipment, and operational materials.
- Monitor usage of housekeeping products to minimize unnecessary consumption and wastage.
- Coordinate purchasing requirements for housekeeping and a la carte services with the Finance team.
- Ensure purchasing activity follows established hotel procedures.
- Oversee implementation of training plans for housekeeping employees and outsourced public area teams.
- Maintain accurate training schedules and employee development records.
- Monitor completion of required training against hotel standards.
- Prepare and conduct employee performance appraisals with the Executive Housekeeper.
- Coordinate closely with Front Office, Concierge, Engineering, Finance, Talent and Culture, and other operational teams.
- Support other areas of hotel operations when management assistance is required.
Ideal Profile
- College graduate.
- Minimum one year of demonstrated experience as a Housekeeping Supervisor or in an equivalent supervisory position within a Hospitality environment.
- Strong working knowledge of housekeeping operations, hotel cleaning standards, residential accommodation, and facility upkeep.
- Experience supervising room attendants, public area cleaners, or outsourced cleaning personnel.
- Able to inspect rooms and identify cleanliness, presentation, maintenance, and readiness issues.
- Practical understanding of hotel room status, group arrivals, late arrivals, and Front Office coordination.
- Strong organizational and planning capability with the ability to balance schedules, staffing, inspections, training, and guest requirements.
- Experience developing or maintaining housekeeping procedures and cleaning checklists.
- Familiarity with stock control, par levels, cleaning materials, and housekeeping equipment.
- Competent using property management systems.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
- Comprehensive awareness of health, safety, hygiene, fire, and environmental compliance requirements.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with employees, residents, guests, and managers.
