The Public Area Attendant is responsible for the cleanliness and visual condition of shared guest and employee areas across the hotel. Daily duties include floor care, dusting, waste removal, washroom servicing, carpet cleaning, lift maintenance, equipment care, and prompt reporting of defects. Consistent performance in this role protects hygiene standards, strengthens guest impressions, reduces safety risks, and supports efficient housekeeping operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Report for duty on time in the correct uniform and complete daily attendance procedures.
- Collect work assignments, supplies, and keys from the Housekeeping Supervisor.
- Sign keys in and out through the approved key‑control log.
- Maintain responsibility for assigned keys throughout the shift.
- Clean hotel lobbies, corridors, pathways, public rooms, and back‑of‑house areas.
- Sweep, dust, mop, vacuum, and spot‑clean floors and carpets according to schedule.
- Dust furniture, walls, counters, telephones, fixtures, tables, and decorative surfaces.
- Polish brass, metal fittings, mirrors, and other approved hotel finishes.
- Clean guest elevators, including doors, walls, mirrors, floors, and control panels.
- Service public washrooms and replenish required guest supplies.
- Check washrooms, elevators, ashtrays, and other high‑traffic areas regularly.
- Remove litter from corridors, pathways, entrances, and assigned public spaces.
- Empty waste bins and dispose of rubbish through approved collection procedures.
- Maintain restaurant and public‑area carpets through scheduled vacuuming and spot cleaning.
- Clean ashtrays and smoking‑area fixtures where applicable.
- Keep housekeeping storerooms clean, orderly, and properly stocked.
- Clean, inspect, and store housekeeping equipment after use.
- Report equipment defects, broken fixtures, and maintenance needs immediately.
- Notify the supervisor of damaged, unsafe, or out‑of‑order items.
- Deliver all lost property to the Housekeeping office without delay.
- Record or hand over found items according to the hotel s Lost and Found procedure.
- Complete special cleaning assignments provided by housekeeping management.
- Support emergency procedures and operational response activities when requested.
- Follow hotel safety regulations and approved chemical‑handling procedures.
- Maintain good working relationships with Housekeeping and other hotel departments.
- Participate in training programs and apply updated cleaning procedures.
- Accept delegated responsibilities from the Executive Housekeeper or supervisor.
- Follow hotel policies, grooming standards, operational procedures, and workplace rules.
- Maintain a courteous, confident, and professional manner around guests and colleagues.
- Present a positive hotel image through personal appearance, conduct, and work quality.
Ideal Profile
- Minimum 1 year of housekeeping or public‑area cleaning experience is preferred.
- Previous employment in a 4‑star or 5‑star hotel is an advantage.
- Understanding of professional cleaning procedures for floors, carpets, washrooms, lifts, and public spaces.
- Ability to operate vacuum cleaners, mops, floor‑care tools, and routine housekeeping equipment.
- Awareness of safe chemical use, waste disposal, and workplace safety practices.
- Responsible approach to hotel keys, supplies, equipment, and Lost and Found items.
- Strong attention to cleanliness, presentation, and small maintenance issues.
- Ability to follow work schedules, supervisor instructions, and hotel standards.
