We are seeking a detail‑oriented and experienced General Ledger Accountant to join our finance team. The General Ledger (GL) Accountant will play a critical role in maintaining the financial integrity of the organization. This position requires a highly organized and proactive individual who can oversee the preparation and management of all financial transactions ensuring they are properly recorded in accordance with accounting principles.
The GL Accountant will support the monthly and year‑end close processes, delivering quality account reconciliations and handling tax reporting. The GL Accountant will help to drive process improvements and contribute to the preparation of financial reports while ensuring compliance with both internal and external accounting requirements. Prepare and maintain accurate general ledger entries ensuring they are compliant with company policies and accounting principles.
Assist with the month‑end, quarter‑end and year‑end closing processes including journal entries and reconciliations.
Review and analyze financial transactions to ensure accuracy, consistency and completeness.
Prepare and maintain balance sheet account reconciliations ensuring all discrepancies are resolved in a timely manner.
Report intercompany balances and tie‑out balances at each month end.
Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of the general ledger function.
Monitor and ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, laws and regulations.
Upon request take part in special projects and ad‑hoc reporting requests.
Maintain, implement and adhere to internal controls while ensuring that accounting procedures comply with GAAP.
Assist with the preparation of internal and external audit schedules and support the audit process. Ability to prepare Financial Statements in accordance with IFRS.
Collaborate with other departments to gather necessary financial data and resolve any discrepancies.
Prepare consolidated Financial Statements across multiple entities or business units as required.
Prepare monthly and annual tax returns (VAT, WHT, CIT etc.) and ensure correctness of data and timely filing of returns.
Maintain a strong understanding of tax laws and regulations ensuring compliance and avoiding penalties.
Participate in budgeting and forecasting activities as needed.
Track and record the CAPEX spending; flag off overspending and provide monthly/quarterly status report.
Manage Employee Accounts, Travel & Expenses claims, Corporate credit card claims to ensure timely booking and processing for payment.
Ensure adherence to Delegation of Authority matrix (DoA).
Work closely with other departments to ensure alignment in accounting processes.
Communicate with business partners to resolve financial issues and implement accounting policies.
Active participation in management team meetings to ensure effective management of debtor collection, aged payables, recoverability of work‑in‑progress and job cost reporting.
Providing support to the management team on financial information as per business requirements.
Responsible for performing other job duties as assigned by Caterpillar management from time to time.
Must be a qualified Chartered Accountant.
Language knowledge: Fluent in English. Candidate with good knowledge of Arabic reading & writing skills will be preferred.
Successful experience in GL Accountant with a comprehensive knowledge of accounting or a related accounting role.
Experience with month‑end and year‑end close processes, account reconciliations and financial reporting.
Knowledge of tax accounting principles and processes.
Proven ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
Minimum 5 years work experience in a similar position and preferably in the Oil and Gas Industry.
Strong computer skills especially in Microsoft Office, SAP & Syteline.
Self‑starter who can work on own initiatives with minimal supervision.
Enthusiastic, proactive and flexible approach to work.

Accounting: Knowledge of accounting methods, processes and tools; ability to maintain and prepare financial statements and reports using accounting methods and processes.
Financial Analysis: Knowledge of tools and approaches of financial analysis; ability to read, interpret and draw accurate conclusions from financial and numerical material.
Financial Reporting: Knowledge of processes, methods and tools of financial reporting; ability to create and maintain accurate and thorough financial reports.
