Job summary

GEMS Royal Dubai School is seeking an Art & Design Technician to join the Secondary phase, starting January 2027, as the school expands to Year 10 and beyond. The role supports practical learning, prepares materials and equipment, and contributes to a thriving Art and Design & Technology program across two campuses.

The successful candidate will assist teachers, manage resources, maintain safe labs, and help to develop students’ practical skills in DT/ART.

Qualifications

  • Experience assisting teachers in practical subjects is preferred.
  • Ability to prepare labs and equipment for lessons.
  • Strong written and spoken English communication.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare labs, rooms, resources and equipment as directed by the teacher.
  • Assist the teacher with DT/ART/Food related activities.
  • Develop familiarity with relevant aspects of the curriculum.
  • Maintain orderly workspaces ensuring readiness for the next lesson.
  • Run small group activities inside or outside the classroom as directed by the teacher.
  • Organise stock and resources.
  • Create work displays and assist with preparation of displays.
  • Ensure the school policies, procedures and codes of conduct are followed.
  • Initiate effort beyond the typical workday when tasks require extra commitment.

Job Purpose:

Assist teachers in their work as directed. A Technician will be asked to assist with a range of tasks on a regular basis

Key Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
  • Embrace and encourage the ethos and standards of excellence as defined in the GEMS/RDS Core Values.
  • Prepare labs, rooms, resources and equipment as directed by the teacher.
  • Assist the teacher with DT/ART/Food related activities.
  • Develop familiarity with relevant aspects of the curriculum.
  • Maintain orderly workspaces ensuring readiness for the next lesson
  • Run small group activities inside or outside the classroom as directed by the teacher.
  • Organise stock and resources.
  • Create work displays and assist with preparation of displays
  • Ensure the GEMS policies, procedures, and codes of conduct are always followed.
  • Initiate effort and energy beyond the typical workday, where the tasks require additional commitment.
Requirements
  • Good level of general education especially in Math and English
  • First aid certificate
  • Health and safety training using DT equipment and machinery
  • Strong communication skills with excellent standard of written and spoken English.
  • Able to handle and a range of tasks, work under pressure and relate well to children and colleagues.
  • Basic knowledge of IT and/or CAD (computer aided design)
  • Experience in some form of practical subject/profession;
  • Previous experience as a teaching assistant or working with children.
