Role Context

The Art and Design Technology Teacher will combine creative practice with structured design methodology, enabling students to move confidently from investigation and concept development through making, testing, evaluation and refinement. The role requires an educator who can balance artistic expression with technical understanding while maintaining safe and well-organised studio and workshop environments. As GEMS Royal Dubai School expands its secondary phase towards Year 13, the postholder will help strengthen curriculum continuity from Primary into Secondary and contribute to future examination and post-16 pathways. The position therefore combines classroom delivery with curriculum development, practical resource planning and wider creative enrichment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver engaging Art and Design Technology lessons across relevant year groups.
  • Develop students ' creativity, visual literacy and confidence in communicating ideas.
  • Teach structured design processes from research and ideation through prototyping, testing and refinement.
  • Build practical competence in using materials, tools, equipment and creative processes.
  • Develop students ' technical understanding alongside artistic and design capability.
  • Teach drawing, visual communication and appropriate presentation techniques.
  • Introduce a broad range of media, materials and production methods.
  • Integrate relevant digital technologies into creative and design projects where appropriate.
  • Encourage students to solve practical problems through iterative design thinking.
  • Develop critical analysis by teaching students to evaluate their own work and the work of others.
  • Set high expectations for creativity, technical precision, participation and achievement.
  • Maintain safe, inclusive and purposeful studio and workshop learning environments.
  • Differentiate practical and theoretical activities according to student ability and readiness.

Ideal Profile
  • Recognised teaching qualification appropriate for Primary or Secondary education.
  • Strong academic or professional background in Art, Design Technology or a related creative discipline.
  • Relevant experience teaching Art and Design Technology.
  • Ability to teach primarily within the Secondary phase.
  • Flexibility to provide specialist teaching within Primary when required.
  • Strong understanding of practical design processes and creative problem-solving.
  • Experience teaching with a range of materials, media, tools and techniques.
