Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare materials, components, tools, machinery, and equipment ahead of practical Design and Technology lessons.
  • Set up workstations according to lesson requirements so teachers can begin practical activities efficiently.
  • Provide hands‑on technical assistance to teachers and students during workshop sessions while reinforcing correct equipment use.
  • Inspect workshop machinery, hand tools, power tools, and associated equipment regularly for safe operating condition.
  • Complete routine maintenance and basic technical repairs where these fall within the technician 's competence.
  • Remove unsafe or defective equipment from service and promptly report faults requiring specialist attention.
  • Carry out workshop safety inspections, assist with risk assessments, and maintain relevant inspection and maintenance records.
  • Monitor the use and condition of materials to reduce unnecessary waste and ensure sufficient resources are available for planned projects.
  • Maintain accurate stock levels and coordinate requirements for replacement materials, consumables, components, and workshop supplies.
  • Store tools, machinery accessories, hazardous materials, and general resources securely and in their designated locations.
  • Keep workshops, preparation rooms, work surfaces, and storage areas clean, orderly, accessible, and ready for teaching.
  • Provide practical fabrication and technical assistance for student projects and departmental requirements when appropriate.
  • Assist teachers with DT exhibitions, displays, demonstrations, special projects, and school events.
  • Report hazards, accidents, equipment failures, or other workshop safety concerns without delay.
