Role Context

The Consultant - Breast Oncoplastic Surgeon will lead and strengthen a comprehensive breast service focused on diagnosis, surgical planning, oncologic treatment, reconstruction, follow‑up care, and service quality. The role requires advanced surgical judgment, strong MDT leadership, and proven experience in breast cancer management, immediate reconstruction, symmetrisation, and complex oncoplastic techniques. The consultant will work closely with oncology, radiology, pathology, plastic surgery, nursing, and allied health teams to deliver safe, evidence‑based, culturally sensitive care for patients with benign and malignant breast conditions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive consultant‑level management for benign and malignant breast disease.
  • Conduct clinical assessments, diagnostic decision‑making, treatment planning, surgical counselling, and long‑term follow‑up for breast patients.
  • Perform advanced oncoplastic breast surgery including therapeutic mammoplasty, volume displacement, volume replacement, implant‑based reconstruction, autologous reconstruction, immediate reconstruction, and symmetrisation procedures.
  • Lead surgical planning for breast cancer cases in coordination with oncology, radiology, pathology, plastic surgery, and wider multidisciplinary teams.
  • Participate actively in breast MDT meetings and contribute expert surgical input to treatment pathways.
  • Manage outpatient clinics, perioperative care, operative planning, postoperative recovery, complication management, and survivorship follow‑up.
  • Deliver empathetic, culturally sensitive, and clear communication to patients and families regarding diagnosis, surgical options, treatment risks, reconstruction choices, and recovery expectations.
  • Support clinical governance through audits, morbidity and mortality reviews, quality improvement initiatives, pathway optimisation, and adherence to international standards.
  • Contribute to the development and expansion of breast services, including care pathways, referral systems, surgical protocols, and patient experience improvements.
  • Train and mentor junior doctors, nurses, surgical trainees, and allied health professionals.
  • Participate in clinical research, innovation, academic activity, and professional education related to breast surgery and cancer care.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation, operative reports, consent records, MDT notes, follow‑up plans, and patient communication records.
  • Ensure clinical practice complies with DHA requirements, hospital policies, patient safety standards, ethical practice, and international breast care guidelines.
Ideal Profile
  • Board‑certified Consultant Breast Surgeon, Oncoplastic Surgeon, or General Surgeon with advanced breast surgery expertise.
  • Fellowship training in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery is required.
  • Minimum 7 to 10 years of post‑board certification experience in breast oncology and reconstruction.
  • Eligibility for DHA Consultant licensure.
  • Proven expertise in advanced oncoplastic techniques, including immediate reconstruction, therapeutic mammoplasty, implant‑based reconstruction, autologous reconstruction, and symmetrisation.
  • Experience working in accredited breast units with strong multidisciplinary team involvement.
