About the Role
The Consultant Breast Surgeon will lead the surgical assessment and management of patients presenting with breast disease, from benign conditions and high-risk findings to confirmed breast malignancies. The position combines advanced breast surgery with multidisciplinary cancer care. The consultant will work closely with breast radiology, medical oncology, radiation oncology, plastic and reconstructive surgery, pathology, and allied healthcare services to develop individualized treatment strategies and support patients throughout their care pathway.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and manage benign and malignant breast diseases.
- Conduct comprehensive breast assessments, including clinical examinations and review of diagnostic imaging.
- Interpret relevant investigations as part of breast disease evaluation and surgical planning.
- Evaluate patients presenting with breast lumps, breast pain, nipple discharge, breast infections, and high-risk breast conditions.
- Perform breast-conserving surgery, including lumpectomy.
- Perform mastectomy procedures when clinically indicated.
- Undertake sentinel lymph node biopsies and axillary lymph node dissections.
- Perform appropriate oncoplastic breast surgical procedures within the approved clinical scope.
- Participate in multidisciplinary breast cancer meetings and individualized treatment planning.
- Collaborate with radiologists on image-guided biopsies and localization procedures.
- Coordinate care with medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, reconstructive surgeons, pathologists, and allied healthcare professionals.
- Provide comprehensive pre-operative counseling and obtain informed consent.
- Manage postoperative care, follow-up, and long-term surveillance.
- Educate patients regarding breast cancer screening and early detection.
- Discuss preventive strategies and available treatment options with patients.
- Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation in accordance with DHA regulations and hospital policies.
- Participate in clinical audits, research, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Maintain professional development through Continuing Medical Education activities.
- Mentor junior physicians and contribute to departmental education and training.
- Follow infection control requirements, patient safety protocols, and ethical medical practices.
Qualifications
- MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.
- Completion of a recognized General Surgery residency.
- Board Certification or equivalent qualification in General Surgery.
- Fellowship or subspecialty training in Breast Surgery, Oncoplastic Breast Surgery, or Surgical Oncology with a focus on breast disease.
- DHA Eligibility Letter, DHA License, or eligibility for Consultant licensure in Dubai.
Professional Experience
- Minimum 8-10 years of post-specialization experience as a Consultant Breast Surgeon.
- Extensive experience in breast cancer surgery.
- Strong experience managing benign breast disease.
- Demonstrated experience with oncoplastic surgical techniques.
- Experience within a dedicated breast unit, tertiary-care hospital, or internationally accredited healthcare institution is highly preferred.
