Responsibilities

About the Role

The Consultant Breast Oncoplastic Surgeon will provide consultant-level assessment, surgical treatment, and ongoing management for patients presenting with malignant and benign breast disease. The position requires advanced surgical judgment and substantial experience in contemporary breast oncology. A major focus is achieving appropriate oncological outcomes while applying oncoplastic principles to preserve or restore breast form whenever clinically suitable.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess and manage patients with breast cancer and benign breast conditions at consultant level.
  • Perform breast-conserving surgery and lumpectomy for appropriate breast lesions and malignancies.
  • Undertake oncoplastic breast-conserving procedures using techniques appropriate to the individual clinical situation.
  • Perform skin-sparing and nipple-sparing mastectomy where indicated.
  • Conduct sentinel lymph node biopsy and axillary lymph node dissection.
  • Perform surgical excision of breast lesions.
  • Manage surgical treatment for locally advanced and recurrent breast cancer.
  • Apply advanced oncoplastic techniques with consideration for both oncological safety and cosmetic outcomes.
  • Assess patients for immediate and delayed breast reconstruction.
  • Collaborate with plastic and reconstructive surgeons when reconstruction requires multidisciplinary surgical planning.
  • Manage high-risk and hereditary breast cancer cases, including risk-reducing surgery when clinically indicated.
  • Participate actively in multidisciplinary breast cancer meetings and individualized treatment planning.
  • Provide detailed pre-operative counselling covering treatment choices, surgical risks, reconstruction options, expected cosmetic outcomes, and recovery.
  • Deliver post-operative care and appropriately manage surgical complications.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation, operative reports, and medical records.
  • Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, research and breast service development.
  • Support the education, training, and supervision of residents, fellows, and junior medical staff.
  • Practice in accordance with UAE regulations, institutional policies and recognized international clinical standards.
Required Qualifications
  • MBBS, MBChB, MD, or equivalent medical degree.
  • Recognized postgraduate qualification in General Surgery, Breast Surgery, Surgical Oncology, or an equivalent discipline.
  • Recognized Board Certification or equivalent specialist qualification.
  • Fellowship or formal subspecialty training in Breast Surgery, Oncoplastic Breast Surgery, or Surgical Oncology is highly desirable.
  • Valid UAE professional license or eligibility for licensing in Abu Dhabi.
Experience

Candidates should have significant post-specialty experience at Consultant level in Breast Surgery or Breast Oncoplastic Surgery, together with strong recent exposure to breast surgical oncology and oncoplastic procedures. Relevant experience should include:

  • Management of complex breast cancer cases within a tertiary-care or comprehensive cancer setting.
  • Breast-conserving surgery.
  • Mastectomy procedures.
