Parsons Corporation is hiring an experienced inspector to maintain continuous site surveillance, verify construction quality, document testing activities, and support the safe delivery of complex trenchless works.
Context
The Civil Inspector - Trenchless Works will monitor underground construction activities from excavation and shaft preparation through tunneling, pipe installation, grouting, backfilling, and surface reinstatement. The role is responsible for confirming that workmanship, materials, testing, and construction procedures comply with approved drawings, specifications, method statements, inspection plans, and project standards.
Regular coordination with the Resident Engineer, contractors, surveyors, testing personnel, and utility stakeholders will help maintain alignment accuracy, resolve site issues, prevent non-conforming work, and protect project progress.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect microtunneling, pipe jacking, shaft construction, piling, and related civil engineering activities.
- Maintain continuous surveillance during critical trenchless construction operations.
- Confirm that work follows approved drawings, project specifications, method statements, and applicable standards.
- Inspect excavation limits, temporary support systems, shaft dimensions, access arrangements, and base preparation.
- Monitor launch shaft and reception shaft construction before tunneling activities begin.
- Verify tunneling line, level, gradient, horizontal alignment, and vertical alignment against approved survey controls.
- Observe pipe jacking operations and record relevant tunneling parameters, progress rates, and site conditions.
- Inspect pipe materials, joints, seals, lubrication systems, and intermediate jacking arrangements.
- Monitor excavation, spoil removal, slurry operations, and ground response during microtunneling.
- Verify pipe installation, connection works, grouting, annular space treatment, and joint completion.
- Inspect backfilling, compaction, reinstatement, and restoration of affected surfaces.
- Monitor piling installation and verify pile position, alignment, depth, and bearing requirements.
- Witness inspections, field tests, material testing, and quality control activities.
- Confirm that inspection and testing procedures comply with approved inspection and test plans.
- Review inspection requests and verify that work is ready before formal acceptance.
- Record construction defects, incomplete work, and deviations from approved requirements.
- Raise non-conformance observations and follow corrective and preventive actions through closure.
- Coordinate with contractor engineers, surveyors, laboratory teams, and utility representatives.
- Report technical concerns promptly to the Resident Engineer.
- Assist in resolving construction issues affecting microtunneling alignment, progress, or quality.
- Prepare detailed daily inspection reports covering manpower, equipment, progress, and site observations.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, test results, approvals, photographs, and corrective actions.
- Monitor construction progress and provide factual site information to the engineering team.
- Ensure compliance with project quality, health and safety, and environmental requirements.
- Report unsafe practices and support immediate corrective action where required.
- Verify completed underground works before concealment, backfilling, or connection.
- Support final inspections, snagging, as-built verification, and handover documentation.
Ideal Profile
- Associate degree or bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, construction technology, or a related technical discipline.
- High school qualification combined with equivalent relevant inspection experience may be considered.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in microtunneling, pipe jacking, trenchless construction, or related supervision work.
- Technical qualification relevant to civil construction or underground infrastructure is required.
- Practical understanding of shaft construction, excavation support, pipeline installation, grouting, and reinstatement.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, profiles, and construction specifications.
- Familiarity with survey controls, tunneling alignment, pipe gradients, and construction tolerances.
- Experience using inspection and test plans, quality records, and non-conformance procedures.
- Recent experience with microtunneling or pipe jacking projects in Dubai is advantageous.
- Ability to recognize construction defects and communicate corrective requirements clearly.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management software.
- Ability to maintain accurate inspection records in a demanding site environment.
